CCIS Students Conduct Digital Skills Workshop for Egaรฑa Residents and Fellow Learners

On May 30, 2026, the students of the College of Computing and Information Science (CCIS) held a successful community workshop at Room 304 of the UA CCIS Building. Following the theme of building practical digital skills, the event welcomed residents from Barangay Egaรฑa as well as fellow students, focusing on tools useful for creating presentations and visual content. Leading the sessions were two student leaders: Asher Morales, Mayor of BSCS 1A and CCIS NSTP-CWTS Public Information Officer, who facilitated the workshop on Microsoft PowerPoint, and JP Evangelio, Mayor of BSIT 1D and CCIS NSTP-CWTS Vice President, who guided participants through the features and uses of Canva.

Both speakers presented clear, easy-to-follow discussions suitable for learners of all skill levels. To ensure participants gained actual proficiency, each session included guided hands-on activities. Attendees practiced designing slides, arranging content, and applying design elements, allowing them to immediately apply what they learned. The activity helped equip the community and students with practical knowledge for school projects, work presentations, and personal creative tasks.

Bridging Digital Knowledge: CCIS Students Lead Microsoft Workshop for Egaรฑa Residents and Peers

College of Computing and Information Science (CCIS) students conducted their community learning activity on May 23, 2026, held at Room 304 of the UA CCIS Building. Centered on the theme โ€œBuilding Practical Digital Skills for Everyday and Academic Useโ€, the workshop gathered participants composed of residents from Barangay Egaรฑa, as well as students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) and Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLIS) programs. The activity was designed to equip attendees with essential, real-world skills for document creation and data managementโ€” competencies useful for school requirements, office work, and personal tasks.

The program officially kicked off at 8:00 in the morning with standard preliminaries, followed by opening remarks from the CCIS Executive Committee President, Ms. Realyn Redoble. Two resource speakers led the sessions, ensuring discussions were straightforward, relevant, and suited for participants with different levels of prior knowledge. Ms. Manilyn Aurelio facilitated the workshop on Microsoft Excel, breaking down core functions and practical uses of the application. Meanwhile, Mr. Jhovan Cris Basaรฑes handled the session on Microsoft Word, focusing on proper document preparation and formatting standards.

Both sessions included guided hands-on activities to let participants practice what they learned right away. For the Excel workshop, attendees worked on creating structured tables and applying formulas to compute General Weighted Average (GWA)โ€” a task familiar and highly useful for students and records keepers. On the other hand, the Word workshop covered best practices for creating organized content, including proper adjustment of font style and size, paragraph alignment, and spacing to ensure documents are neat, readable, and professional.

CCIS First-Year BSIT Students Spearhead Digital Literacy and Safety Program

College of Computing Information Science (CCIS) IT students carried out their community learning activity on May 16, 2026, at the UA CCIS AVR in District 1, Sibalom, Antique. Held under the theme โ€œAwareness and Literacy Today Lead To A Safer Digital Tomorrowโ€, the session covered three key areasโ€” including Computer Literacy, Cybersecurity Awareness and Fact Checking. It aimed to provide necessary knowledge and practical abilities that allow participants to make the most of digital resources while staying well-informed and protected.

Different speakers handled each subject to ensure discussions were accurate, relevant, and easy to understand. Rhyns Eric Cabios from BSCS ANTIKYTHERA, UA CCIS, led Computer Literacyโ€” explaining tech fundamentals and guiding participants to navigate digital platforms effectively, building confidence in using computers and other devices. On the other hand, Pcpl Jeanen Gregorio and Pcpl Jesreel Esteves from the Philippine National Police (PNP) facilitated Cybersecurity Awareness and Fact Checking, covering safety measures to protect data and practical ways to distinguish factual content from misleading information.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to all individuals who contributed to this undertaking. Our special thanks go to the dedicated speakers and volunteers who generously gave their time, effort, and support to make the program possible.

CCIS First-Year BLIS and BSCS Students Join Forces with MDRRMO and BFP for their second NSTP-CWTS Immersion in Egaรฑa, Sibalom, Antique

CCIS First-year Students continued their NSTP-CWTS Immersion on May 09, 2026, in partnership with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Sibalom. Anchored on the theme: โ€œDisaster Readiness and Emergency Responseโ€, the activity aimed to strengthen disaster preparedness, fire safety awareness, and community resilience among all participants.

Held at Egaรฑa Plaza, the program commenced with the Philippine National Anthem and a prayer led by JP Evangelio, Vice President of the CCIS Executive Committee (ExeCom). Afterwards, representatives from both agencies led informative discussions during the orientation proper. The MDRRMO team shared vital knowledge on hazard identification, early warning systems, and proper evacuation procedures during calamities such as typhoons and floods. Meanwhile, BFP personnel presented guidelines on fire prevention, correct usage of fire extinguishers, and safety measures at home and in public places. They also provided official contact numbers and hotlines which the community can reach immediately in case of emergencies.

All segments of the program proceeded accordingly. The ExeCom ensured that all arrangements, venue preparation, and flow of activities were properly managed. To formally conclude the activity, Ms. Marivel H. Luping, the Advisor, delivered her closing message. The session proved productive and beneficial to everyone present.
