Today, November 28, we observe the global movement to END Violence Against Women and formally begin the Philippines’ 18-Day Campaign to End VAW.
VAW does not always leave visible wounds.
Often, the deepest scars are silent:
*trauma
*anxiety
*shame
*loss of self-worth
*difficulty trusting others
*long-term emotional distress
A woman may recover from bruises in days, but psychological wounds can take years, and sometimes a lifetime, to heal.
Ending VAW requires a whole-community effort.
And this includes men and the youth.
When men commit to being protectors rather than perpetrators,
*When they choose empathy over aggression,
*When they challenge harmful stereotypes,
*When they model emotional maturity, respect, and healthy masculinity,
They help break generational patterns of violence.
The youth have an equally powerful role. Their mindset is still forming, their voices are bold, and their values can reshape tomorrow. When young people advocate for respect, equality, and consent, they are building a future where violence has no place.
As we begin these 18 days of awareness and action, may we:
*Promote trauma-informed understanding
*Prioritize psychological healing and mental health support
*Encourage counseling and safe-space conversations
*Normalize seeking help and speaking up
*Engage men and youth as active collaborators in the change
Together we declare:
Men for a VAW-Free Philippines.
Youth for a compassionate and safe tomorrow.
A society where healing is possible, and violence has no place.
