The PMA held a workshop regarding case filing to further strengthen the capacity of local affiliates to face problems related to proper labor relations within their respective factories. Bro. Bien Dimaculangan of the PMA NEB welcomed the delegates from each local union. While Bro. Rey Rasing, PMA Secretary-General, served as its resource person. Bro. Narciso "Jun" Lozano, PMA National President also welcomed the participants in the said event.

𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐌𝐓𝐂 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝!

On August 8, 2026, PMA conducted another session of the Basic Membership Training Course (BMTC) for its local unions that are not yet able to independently hold such training. The BMTC was led by Bro. Garlo Sumadsad of the Education and Research Committee, and also participated by Bro. Rey Rasing, PMA Secretary-General.

Participants of the said educational seminar were composed of members from TF Logistics Philippines Supervisory Union (TFLPSU), Technol Eight Supervisory Union (TESU), Isuzu Autoparts Supervisory Employees Union (IASEU), Toyota Boshoku Philippines Corporation Supervisory Union (TBPCSU), Nagkakaisang Manggagawa sa Silgan (NAMASIL), Workers Alliance in RVL Motors (WARM), Furukawa Employees Welfare Union (FEWU) and TF Logistics Philippines Workers Union (TFLPWU).

This activity is still part of PMA's efforts to consolidate its ranks and build a better foundation for its unionists.

The Education and Research Committee has just recently held its meeting, consolidating further its composition and planning future plans.

Bro. Garlo Sumadsad, PMA National Director for Education and Research, presided over the meeting. Sis. Joan Nartatez, the committee's secretary, also attended the meeting. The local education committee officers of the respective local unions of PMA also attended the event.

The meeting was also graced by Bro. Rey Rasing, PMA Secretary-General and supported by PMA staff members.

The PMA workers' defense committee has just held its meeting to tackle issues related to the labor cases being handled by its local counterparts and to plan the next activities of the committee.

Bro. Florencio Mediarito, the committee's vice-chairperson and a member of Daiwa Seiko Supervisory Union (DSSU), presided over the meeting. Sis. Vanessa Rosita, the committee's secretary, also attended the meeting, together with local representatives from the following local PMA affiliates:

Bro. Narciso Lozano, PMA National President, also graced and participated in the meeting, together with Bro. Rogel Samonte and Bro. Arnold Sabido of the PMA National Executive Board. The initiative was in accordance with the national union's efforts to secure the rights of its workers and plan their further empowerment to face cases of labor rights violation.

The Philippine Metalworkers' Alliance supports the current moves of labor groups to denounce the recent illegal maneuvers of employers to stop the implementation of the NCR wage order that provides the highest wage increase in the region since time immemorial.

We at PMA stand that it is only necessary to implement this wage order in accordance with the provisions of the Labor Code and in consideration of the minimum wage earners in the NCR. We also stand that the Pasig RTC Branch 152 must withdraw the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by Judge Marie Joyce Manongsong, as there is no court in the land that has jurisdiction over wage orders. According to the Labor Code, this is a sole responsibility of the National Wages and Productivity Commission, together with the regional wage boards.

Furthermore, we also denounce the special action suit filed by the Philippine Fishing Federation for the same purpose of halting the full implementation of the said wage order, and this move only proves that there are concerted efforts by employers in the region to impede this just wage order.

The Philippines has been experiencing various types of economic crises ranging from the high prices of petroleum products to the paralyzing effects of inflation. In this regard, it is only high time to increase the current amount of minimum wage in the NCR so that workers can at least keep up with the worsening effects of economic crises.

PMA is one with the entire labor movement on its current push for the full implementation of the NCR wage order and encourages our members to also do the same.

Members of PMA's Membership Welfare Committee braved the inclement weather today to conduct its general meeting regarding the plans and policies peculiar to the welfare of PMA members. Bro. Orlan Fernandez of Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation Labor Organization (TMPCLO) and National Director for Membership Welfare facilitated the meeting. While Bro. William Caguicla of PEWU and vice-chairperson of the committee, and Sis. Mabel Unigo also attended the said meeting. Their presence was further reinforced by the attendance of representatives from the following local unions:

Last July 25, 2026, PMA held its Basic Membership and Training Course for all its affiliated unions, which were either small or not yet capable of holding it on their own. The said educational activity was attended by the Workers Union in Pozzolanic Philippines Inc. (WUPPI), TF Logistics Philippines Workers Union (TFLPWU), Independent Righpak Employees Union (IREU), Furukawa Employees Welfare Union, and the Nagkakaisang Manggagawa sa Silgan (NAMASIL).

Bro. Garlo Sumadsad of the Research and Education Committee facilitated the activity, together with Bro. Ramil Lazaro, president of IREU, Sis. Julie Maldonado, Bro. Jayson Ramirez, Bro. James Magsumbol and Bro. Limuel Riño, all of whom were instructors from the local affiliates of PMA. While Bro. Rey Rasing, PMA Secretary-General, welcomed the participants and inspired them to continuously learn to further improve their practice of unionism. Bro. Orlan Fernandez and Bro. Arnold Sabido of the National Executive Board also graced the seminar.

This effort is just one among the many thrusts of the national union to elevate the awareness of its members and to improve the leadership of its local unions.

𝐏𝐌𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐧. 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐚'𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞

Recently, Sen. Risa Hontiveros aired her concern and condemnation of the hundreds of death threats that she had been receiving on social media. Even though the matter is already under investigation, it is still imperative to call out such threats and to support Sen. Ri.

Sen. Risa has always been a staunch critic of the past administration's "War on Drugs" and of the flood control scandal that the present administration has been going through. She was also instrumental in the investigation, and later on, outlawing of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO). It is because of these stances that the good senator has been threatened. It is also because of these stances that we, as a workers' organization, must stand with her.

Senator Risa Hontiveros has been working with the various marginalized sectors of society to unite them towards their genuine interests since the first time she ran in public office. Threats like these only hamper the efforts being done for the advancement of the interests of these marginalized sectors. Included in these sectors are the workers, who have always been at the heart of Sen. Ri's advocacies and legislations.

Furthermore, these threats to her life only reflect the current plight of women in our society. They are always considered as weak and fragile, and always a soft target of violence.

PMA condemns these threats to the life of Sen. Ri, and further amplifies the call to end senseless violence, especially those afflicted to women. A society will never accomplish anything if our responses to legitimate criticisms and advocacies are always expressed in the form of violence.
