Philippine Metalworkers' Alliance

Philippine Metalworkers' Alliance This was brought forth through the initiative of Mr. Frank Mero, then President of the Mitsubishi Motor Workers Union-Philippines (MMWU-P, Mr.

After a series of consultation and alternative fora which started in 2002, 17 unions, or roughly 2,000 workers, organized and launched the Philippine Metalworkers’ Alliance (PMA) on November 9, 2003. Angel Dimalanta, then President of the Toyota Motor Phils. Supervisors’ Union (TMPSU) in cooperation with the Labor Education and Research Network (LEARN). It started as a broad alliance of three (3)

sectors: (1) automotive, (2) iron and steel, (3) electronics and electrical. The Alliance aims to unite the metalworkers’ in the country in advancing their legitimate rights, welfare and concern through collective actions and solidarity based on the principle of democratic and responsible unionism. Seeing the need for a legal identity, PMA registered to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) as a workers’ association on March 14, 2005. This reinforced the Alliance’s work of consolidating organized and unorganized workers in the metal industry. On May 13, 2008, PMA registered to the DOLE as a National Union to serve more workers by maximizing the coverage of Republic Act 9481 or the Act Strengthening the Workers' Constitutional Right to Self-Organization, enacted on May 25, 2007. PMA has outlined its immediate programs of action to make trade union activities more relevant especially among metal workers as follows:

1. Strengthen the rights of men and women workers;
2. Influence progressively government to make decisions and policies that will lead to fair distribution of growth and resources particularly in the metal industry;
3. Consolidate the already organized metal workers and organize the unorganized; and
4. Use the alliance as a venue to conduct joint and collective actions/campaigns vital to the interests of all metalworkers.

VENUE: Audio Visual Room (AVR), TUCP Building, TUCP-PGEA Compound, Masaya St. cor Maharlika St. Diliman, Quezon City

The National Wage Coalition, composed of the Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMP), Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), Nagkaisa! Labor Coalition (NAGKAISA!), and Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP), will hold a press conference on 28 April 2026 (Tuesday) at 10 AM to launch this year’s Labor Day march under a common call: SAHOD ITAAS! BUWIS IBABA! MAG-WELGA BUONG BANSA!

Workers across the country are set to mobilize in unprecedented numbers against the indifference and inaction of the Marcos Administration to the workers’ five-point demand W.E.L.G.A. to raise the minimum wage, reduce taxes for the middle class, impose wealth and windfall profits tax, lower prices, and full recovery of stolen wealth by holding all the corrupt accountable. Every Filipino working family is also one with the global call to end the war and restore a just and lasting peace in the Middle East and beyond.

KAYA SA DARATING NA MAYO UNO, ANG BAWAT MANGGAGAWA, PAMILYA, AT ORDINARYONG PILIPINO AY MANGANGALAMPAG SA GOBYERNO: SAHOD ITAAS! BUWIS IBABA! MAG-WELGA BUONG BANSA!

PMA recently attended the Senate Committee on Labor's hearing over the passing of an anti-contractualization bill in accordance with the national union's effort to help workers who do not belong to the "unionizable" section of the sector.

The practice of contractualization has always been a battle fought by PMA ever since its founding as part of its devotion to combating the adverse effects of neoliberalism which gave birth to contractualization and other unjust labor practices. The labor group's participation at the hearing clearly manifests the belief that the battle against contractualization must be won beyond the walls of factories and extend to the corridors of power.

Mabuhay ang uring manggagawa!

PMA receives the current interest of Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation in the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy (EVIS) as a welcome development to further boost the manufacturing of electric auto-vehicles in the country, while staying critical over the neoliberal orientation of the Electric Vehicle Development Act or EVIDA and strongly cites the inclusion of labor due diligence and protection of workers' rights as necessary provisions in the program implementation to anticipate any negative repercussions to workers in the auto-manufacturing industry.

𝙔𝙪𝙣, 𝙨𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙩!

PMA congratulates its local union Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation Labor Organization (TMPCLO) for its recently successful orientation of new members, who were also newly regularized workers of their company. This small success was part of PMA's continuous battle against labor contractualization. This also proves that unions can be a vehicle of campaign against the inhumane scheme of labor contractualization within their own premises, even though they are tied to the country's rigid legal parameters.

Mabuhay kayo TMPCLO!

As we celebrate the rising of the Lord, let us not forget that he is also a worker, oppressed and impoverished just like us. Let his rising be always remembered as a hope that one day, workers will work their way out of their current misery and reach their own salvation.

Let this verse from the Bible remind us of the truthfulness of this salvation: "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:24.

Despite the odds of Trump's tariff war against the world and his imposed war on Iran, Japanese companies have been accepting the demand of labor for a better wage. Please read the article below:

Close attention is being paid to whether the wage hike momentum will spread to small companies, which employ about 70% of all workers in Japan.

𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐦 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

As this day marks the beginning of Holy Week, PMA encourages us all to lament on the humble beginnings of our Lord, and to reflect on the divine truth that the Son of Man did not choose to be a king on earth and rode a donkey on his way to Jerusalem instead of chariots. Today marks the victory of Jesus before dying on the cross and redeeming our sins.

Let us all reflect on the message of Jesus' fulfillment of the divine prophecy in accordance with the current suffering that we continuously experience because of a downtrodden system that even Jesus would denounce if ever he was on earth.

"Hosanna to the Son of David! 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!' Hosanna in the highest heaven!"
