Let there be light.

IWC-VRC donated solar light to Area 4, Sitio Payong.

From a dark alley, now lighted, enhances safety by improving visibility, deterring potential criminal activity, and fostering stronger sense of security for pedestrians and residents.

"Liwanag at Lingap"

Area 1, of Sitio Payong, is a community without Water and Electricity. During night time, the area is pitch dark and residents are not safe walking home, because of the possibility of stepping on snakes or tripping from big rocks or uneven ground or become victim of "bad elements".

Last April 9, Rotary Muntinlupa East and IWC-VRC, visited the community and donated loaves of bread and Solar lights. The residents are so happy that, initially, some of the areas will be lighted. They are hoping that more areas will be lighted in the future or better, with God's Grace, every home will be lighted.

April 12 (Sunday), 8am.

"Shampoo mula sa puso, tepok ang mga kuto". (Part 2)

We started early.

65 Kids and 20 adults were given haircut sponsored by Councilor Luigi Pumaren. Thank you Councilor Renato Ima Granada who contacted the haircutters and made sure they arrive on time.

After haircut, the kids proceeded to the shampoo area for hair lice treatment ( the lice shampoo & lotion came from Sydney sponsored by Yolanda Irigon Dictado) and scalp massage. After rinsing their hair, they were given towels (sponsored by Councilor Marilyn H. Diche) to dry their hair.

After the hair treatment, the kids enjoyed hot
"goto-lugaw with tokwa" (sponsored by Marlene Wilbur Gelsana) and prepared by our volunteers.

We are very grateful to all our generous sponsors, the "lice treatment" specialists (Bing, Princess & Hannah), Food Manager (Merevic Singson Torrefranca) and all the volunteers.

Temperature today in QC was around 39°C. At around 9am, we walked from the "border" up to the chapel (around 700 meters long). Mr. Sun was already showing off his strength.

In the chapel, with the galvanized roofing absorbing the heat, we were being toasted.

And when it is hot, generally we should move less, avoid heavy exertion, limit physical activity to minimize the body's internal heat production.

Guess what? We did the opposite. 😅

After the kids have eaten we went to Home Depot and bought Solar lights. Then we went to another shop, bought water drums.

Then we went back to the chapel, unload 360 loaves of bread donated to us.

Then we distributed the bread to 240 families in Area 1.
After the distribution. We went around the community for ocular inspection on where to put the solar lights donated by Rotary.

After the ocular inspection,
we visted a wake in the area to extend our condolences and gave loaves of bread to the family.

Then we went back to the chapel, load again the remaining loaves in the car and went to Area 4 to distribute to 100 families.

It was a hot but very productive, tiring but very fulfilling day.

Because when others chose to be grumpy and "hot headed" in today's climate, we chose to be positive and spread kindness.
Basta may sa amin. 😂

We started a 120 days feeding program at Area 1 of Sitio Payong last January, 2026.

This is the 2nd year of feeding of "Hands that Feed" and IWC-VRC.

It is more challenging now, for us, because the community does not have water and electricity. And the small chapel can only accommodate 40 kids at a time.

Of course, no matter how challenging the situation is, the more determined we were to proceed with the feeding.

And so, last January 20, we started with the weighing in and height measurement. We feed 120 kids thrice a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday).

After a week, God tested us again with another challenge. The road leading to the chapel was blocked by a subdivision. We have no choice but to walk about 700 meters or more just to reach the chapel. Challenge accepted, new level unlocked. :)
Feeding continued.

Then, heat intensified when March came. 🏜 Since there is No electricity, No electric fan. There is no ceiling, so we are like sitting ducks in an oven.
🦆

Yet, feeding continues and we are on our last month. 💪

God is so good. We are very thankful to all our volunteers who do most of the hard chores: fetching water, collecting woods, do the marketing, cooking (bearing the heat and heavy smoke), serving the food and cleaning the utensils.

And most of all, we are thankful to Madam Merevic Singson Torrefranca, the strength of the volunteers depend on her.
