House of Ekolife fights for Fair Trade
In 2018, House of Ekolife launched #TheFairTradeCoffeeFund, a crowdfunding campaign that seeks to subsidize a sizeable purchase of green coffee beans directly from farmers at fair trade prices. Through this, the fund hopes to make a difference for those farmers who are shortchanged by traders and big manufacturers, and thus become trapped in a cycle of poverty and loan sharks to support their families for the rest of the year.
The vision is for #TheFairTradeCoffeeFund to become an annual tradition, around the limited 4-month coffee harvest season, with more and more stakeholders in the local coffee industry helping bring the Filipino Coffee Farmer and his plight into the spotlight and out of poverty.
