As our journey at Lyceum de San Pablo nears its completion, the graduating batch of the College of Psychology gathered today, August 20, at the Cathedral of Saint Paul the First Hermit to offer a mass of thanksgiving. โ›ช

Surrounded by loved ones, faculty, and fellow graduates, this Baccalaureate Mass served as a moment to pause, reflect, and give thanks for every lesson, challenge, and triumph that shaped us over the years. ๐Ÿ’™

Today, August 14, the Lyceum Psychological Society honors the birth anniversary of a true titan of Philippine Psychology and a National Scientist, Dr. Alfredo V. Lagmay!

An influential behaviorist who trained under B.F. Skinner at Harvard, Dr. Lagmay was a pioneer in experimental psychology in the Philippines. He served as the chairman of the UP Department of Psychology for over two decades and was a founding father of the Psychological Association of the Philippines (PAP), helping elevate the discipline into a respected, regulated profession in the country.

FUN FACT:
Dr. Lagmay was famous for his research on Zen meditation, stress reduction, and behavioral modification. He beautifully bridged Western scientific experimental methods with Eastern philosophical practices, proving that mindfulness and self-regulation are essential tools for maintaining mental well-being and inner peace. ๐Ÿ”

He introduced the ground-breaking theories of Learned Helplessness and the PERMA Model (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment) for well-being.

FUN FACT:
His shift toward positive psychology was inspired by a moment with his 5-year-old daughter, Nikki! After she called him out for being grumpy while gardening, he realized that raising kids isn't just about correcting flawsโ€”it's about nurturing their greatest strengths! ๐ŸŒฑ
