Luminous objects are those that produce their own light, such as the sun, stars, and light bulbs.
In contrast, non-luminous objects do not emit light on their own; they are only visible when illuminated by a luminous source.
This distinction highlights the essential role of light in allowing us to perceive the world around us.

Our planet is a complex system where every part, from the smallest insect to the largest forest, is linked. These 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 are the homes and communities of living things, and their health is key to a stable environment. The variety of life within them, called 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲, is the basis for things our planet gives us, like clean air, water, and rich soil. But this delicate balance is under attack from 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. When things like plastics, chemicals, and factory waste get into our ecosystems, they mess up natural processes and directly hurt the plants and animals that make up our planet’s biodiversity.

Every 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 26, we honor the 𝑺𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒅𝒓𝒆 — Luzon’s natural guardian that shields millions of Filipinos from typhoons and shelters unique plants and animals. 🌱🦅

Stretching over 500 kilometers, the Sierra Madre is known as the “𝑩𝒂𝒄𝒌𝒃𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝑳𝒖𝒛𝒐𝒏” because it protects us from storms coming off the Pacific Ocean. 🌬️🌧️

Unfortunately, this mountain range faces threat from illegal logging, mining, and harmful development. Today reminds us that protecting Sierra Madre means protecting the communities that rely on it and the future we want for the next generation.

As 𝑻𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒎 𝑵𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐 continues to affect parts of the Philippines, YELS Club reminds everyone that safety should always come first. Heavy rains, strong winds, and thunderstorms are expected, so it’s important to stay alert and prepared.

We often explore the wonders of science, and weather is one of its most powerful forces. But while storms teach us how nature works, they also remind us how important it is to respect and prepare for its impact.

Here are some safety tips you can follow:

✅ 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒚 𝒊𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒅 – Always check PAGASA and your LGU’s official announcements for the latest weather updates.
✅ 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒏 𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 𝒌𝒊𝒕 – Include water, food, flashlight, batteries, medicine, and important documents in waterproof bags.
✅ 𝑬𝒗𝒂𝒄𝒖𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒊𝒇 𝒏𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒂𝒓𝒚 – Your safety matters most; don’t wait until it’s too late.

Even if classes are suspended, let’s not let our guard down. YELS Club stands with every student, family, and community member in staying safe and resilient. Together, let’s use our knowledge, awareness, and preparedness to face the storm wisely.

☀️ 𝕾𝖔𝖑𝖆𝖗 𝕿𝖗𝖎𝖛𝖎𝖆 𝕿𝖎𝖒𝖊!🔋

In 𝟏𝟗𝟓𝟒, Calvin Fuller, Daryl Chapin, and Gerald Pearson at 𝘽𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 constructed the first functioning 𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙤𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡. Previous solar cells functioned minimally and their design converted sunlight into electricity at around 6% efficiency. These cells quickly powered 𝙨𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙑𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙙 1, demonstrating that sunlight could power spacecraft. That little step resulted in the solar panels we enjoy today on rooftops of homes, schools, automobiles, and devices, defining clean energy for a better tomorrow. 🌱✨
