House impeaches Duterte in 255-26-9 vote

The House of Representatives voted to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte
during its first regular session on Monday,
making her the first Philippine official to face impeachment twice.

During the House plenary session, 255
lawmakers voted in favor of the impeachment, while twenty-six voted against it, and nine abstained. The voting results showed that a majority of House members found sufficient basis to advance the complaint.

Duterte is facing accussations over an alleged death threat against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the supposed misuse of multimillion-peso confidential funds. Following the House vote, the impeachment complaint will proceed to the Senate for trial.

Motherhood is a plague, contagious in a way that reshapes the world. It allows love—in its purest state—to seep into the toughest walls and replace the feeling of alienation in many.

It does not belong only to those who are the bearers of life. It lives, too, in those who emit the essence of a mother. It flourishes within people who carry the instinct to shelter, to nourish, and to guide the lost.

Today, on Mother's Day, we recognize every heart that has cared for those who needed to know that life is not meant to be hollow. They continue to prove that motherhood is not limited to biological means but is passed onward through the act of remaining present in the lives of others. Happy Mother's Day to all who love with a mother's grace!

Enrollment will start at exactly 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM at SLNHS Covered Court.

𝐉𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐃 𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐎𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐘 |

"Do not cry, Pepito, show to these people that you are brave. It is an honor to die for one's country. Not everybody has that chance."

As these last words of patriotism uttered from the mouth of a Pampanga-born leader to his son, an enduring legacy of loyalty and bravery was to be left by Jose Abad Santos during the Japanese occupation in World War II.

Serving as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and Acting President of the Commonwealth at the time, he was captured and forced to take an oath of allegiance to Japan. He—yet under threat of martyrdom—fearlessly refused, choosing our country’s independence over his very own self-preservation.

Jose Abad Santos was thereafter executed, and today, we honor his sacrificial leadership in service to the Philippines. May we live by the final words spoken of a Kapampangan revered hero.

One feeds the nation, another controls the steering wheel, one builds construction, and another safeguards the future—all beneath the scorching sun and the darkness of night.

This Labor Day, we celebrate not only the laborers’ sacrifices and perseverance for their families and for the country, but also a call to acknowledge and address the unseen reality faced by Filipino workers.
