TITLE: CHRIST’S THREEFOLD DUTIES
PREACHER: Pastor Jerry A. Jabon
INTRODUCTION:
There were three kinds of persons who were anointed by oil in the Old Testament age: The Prophets, The Priests, and the Kings ( 1 Kings19:16; Exodus 40:13-15; 2 Kings 9:3).
Christ is the Prophet and the Teacher anointed by the Holy Spirit. And He is also the Heavenly High Priest. The concepts of the many roles that Christ played are all Biblically sound.
Deuteronomy 18:15 - PROPHET
“The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;”
King James Version (KJV)
Psalms 110:4 - PRIEST
“The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
King James Version (KJV)
Zechariah Chapter 6 - KING
12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:
13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
These three duties of Christ were all fulfilled when Christ came to earth, shouldered all the sins of the world by being baptized by John, was crucified and shed His blood on the cross, and rose again from the dead on the third day.
THREE FOLD ANOINTING OF CHRIST IN RELATION TO HIS THREE FOLD DUTIES.
1.HIS ANOINTING AS A PROPHET.
Like the Prophets of the Old Testament, Christ fulfilled His prophetic role by revealing the will of God and implementing God’s Word to His people. But Christ was not mere a simple prophet, He was the greatest Prophet for mankind. His Word was the complete and perfect Word of God that no prophet can ever add to or subtract from. This is because all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Him (Colossians 2:3), it is also because He is “The only Begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father.” (John 1:18).
88 “‘Well,’ she thought, ‘we been married for twenty-five years, and never did he do it before, so there must be something wrong now. So, we know that…And Jesus is supposed to be here most any time, so I’ll just act like I’m not concerned. But he don’t believe that Jesus is a Prophet, so if he could ever be convinced that He was a Prophet, then He would know the Word of the Lord, ’cause he’s a Jew, and he knows the Word comes to the prophet. So he knows that He would have the Word of the Lord.’

109 Was He a Prophet? Amen! Sure He was. Not only did He know he was in the tree, but He knowed his name was Zacchaeus. Amen. Glory!

Christ’s message was made perfect when He had completed His mission: To fulfill righteousness of God, Jesus was baptized by John, and shed His blood on the cross; And He calls every sinner to be remitted of all his/her sins withing the righteousness He had completed.
Notice, “But Rebekah said, ‘I stood, and I saw Him work, and I know that He is that Messiah. He is a prophet.’

120 “So there He was, there He set in there that night…that day. And—and this little woman said, ‘If That is Who That is, That is that Man, I believe He is a Prophet, and He was the One forgive Mary Magdalene, that woman just as bad as me, forgive her sins.’
121 “Down the city she went, up a little ol’ alley, and up a little creaky steps in a little ol’ shack, reached down there and she pulled out what little money she had collected on her ill way of living. She pulled this out, this money bag, and she said, ‘I can’t do it. He, He is a Prophet, and He would know how I got this money. He would…But it’s all I can do, it’s all I got, and I must see Him, I’m a sinner, I must ask Him to forgive me.’

The Bible said that those who do not believe in Jesus Christ are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the Only Begotten Son of God, and thus remain sinful (John 3:18). They cannot find the way to eternal either.
Because Christ sermons had the power and authority as the Prophet, He led His listeners to obey His Word.
2.HIS ANOINTING AS A HIGH PRIEST.
Psalms 110:4
“The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.”
King James Version (KJV)
This means that Christ is the HIGH PRIEST not from the order of Aaron, but He is the High Priest as a result of Jehovah’s special and singular calling and appointment. The Priest in the Old Testament, who had served in the tabernacle or the Temple, were the foreshadowers of this Christ to come, presaging Christ as the perfect and eternal High Priest.
The Bible says in Hebrews 9:24,
“For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:”
King James Version (KJV)
148 Now, how would we know tonight if It was Him? Because He will do the same work that He did. If He’s the High Priest…Hebrews 4:15 said that “Jesus Christ is the High Priest right now that can be touched by the feeling of our infirmities.” See? He’s making intercessions. Jesus promised in the last days these things would take place.
60-0609 - Be Not Afraid
Rev. William Marrion Branham
188 Oh, how wonderful Jesus is! Pray. He is the High Priest of our confession to make intercessions in the Presence of God for our confession. And everything that He died for is ours, a free gift if we will accept it and confess it, deny everything contrary.
189 Oh, He’s standing now, that Light, the Pillar of Fire, the emerald Light, the Shekinah Glory of the Presence of God! It’s over a man with a light suit on, setting right back there, way back towards the back, he’s on the outside seat. And he’s got some kind of a vocal condition in his throat. Stand up, sir. You believe? All right. That’s just… .You believe His promise will heal you?

THERE ARE THREE DIMENSIONS TO CHRIST MINISTRY AS A HIGH PRIEST.
1.First, He had offered Himself as the sacrifice for our sins forever.
Jesus Christ, in other words, had redeemed us from destruction with His baptism and bloodshed. He has completed God’s righteousness by having obtained eternal redemption for us.
WHAT IS THE CONTRAST BETWEEN AARONIC SACRIFICES or OFFERINGS AND CHRIST’S SACRIFICE?
Aaronic sacrifices or offering in the Old Testament is REPETITIVE.
Christ SACRIFICE or offering is ONCE and for ALL.
In Hebrews 9:26 it states;
“For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
King James Version (KJV)
He is the Lamb of God who shouldered the sins of the world with His Baptism and carried them to the cross. Matthew 3:13-17 says:
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Jesus Christ reveals to us that He Himself was sacrificed as our “Own Passover Lamb.” By sacrificing Himself for the sins of mankind. He paid the price of redemption to God for the sake of His people.
Hebrews 9:28 states,
“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
King James Version (KJV)
Jesus Christ did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but He entered the most Holy Place once and for all by His own Blood, having obtained Eternal Redemption. (Hebrews 9:12). He did like High Priest of the Old Testament, who in the day of Atonement, had entered the Most Holy Place with the blood of sacrifice.
That is what happened for our redemption. The Holy Ghost came upon Mary and she bore a Son and called Him, Jesus. The great Creator came down and became a sacrifice for our sin. His blood was the blood of God. That is exactly what it was. That blood of God was shed and the Spirit left Him as He died in agony. Then the SAME LIFE (SPIRIT) came back to indwell the repentant sinner and set him free. That sinner did not come back year after year, sacrifice after sacrifice, for there was no need. By ONE sacrifice, once and for all he has been set free from the dominion of sin, and has received the life of Christ whereby he reigns in victory over sin, the world, the flesh and the devil.

2.The second dimension to the Priestly ministry of Christ is PRAYER.
He not only enables mankind simply to approach God, but more so, He enables them to go boldly to the throne of Grace (Hebrews 4:16; 10:19).
Hebrews 4:16
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
King James Version (KJV)
Hebrews 10:19
“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,”
King James Version (KJV)
Christ’s not only teaches us how to pray (Luke 11:1-4; Matthew 6:9-13), but He also guarantees before God that prayers of whoever prays truthfully in His Name, and imploring God based on works, He makes it possible that his/her prayers would be answered.
Christ Himself prays for His people, and He works, as the Inter-ceder who, for their sake, pleads on their behalf and defends them before God.
