RABIES TODAY: 100% Preventable, yet it still costs lives.

Did you know that despite being vaccine-preventable, rabies continues to cause tens of thousands of deaths every year globally?

Why is this still happening?
We are facing major gaps: low vaccination coverage in dogs, delayed treatment at Animal Bite Centers after a bite, dangerous misinformation online, and the reality that our children are at the highest risk.

Why this matters NOW
Global health authorities emphasize that no one should die from rabies today. We already know how to stop it. The gap isn't science, it's awareness and community engagement.

The Solution:
Rabies elimination requires integrating human health, animal vaccination, and community participation. This is where ON3 Kumunity PAWJECT comes in: empowering youth to turn awareness into prevention and responsibility.

Rabies is preventable. The real challenge is ACTION.
✔ Vaccinate dogs and cats regularly.
✔ Seek immediate care at an Animal Bite Center (ABC) after any bite or scratch.

Happy National Women’s Month from ON3 Kumunity Pawject! 💜🐾🌍

Long before modern science gave us the term "One Health," the Babaylan, the historical female healers of our communities already understood the assignment. They knew that the health of the people, the animals, and the land were deeply and spiritually connected. If the environment was sick, the community was sick.

This March, we celebrate the modern Juanas of Agusan del Sur who continue this legacy of care and protection every single day:

👩‍⚕️ For Human Health: The mothers, nurses, and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) who are our very first frontliners at home and in the barangay.

🐄 For Animal Health: The female farmers, veterinarians, animal rescuers, and dedicated fur-moms who make sure our pets and livestock are healthy and safe.

🌱 For Environmental Health: The women who lead by example in keeping our rivers clean, our neighborhoods safe, and our nature thriving.

Women have always been the bridge between humanity and nature. Today, we honor the women who protect our homes, care for our animals, and nurture our KUMUNITY.

Agusan del Sur continues to face the ongoing challenge of rabies. Back in 2002, our province faced over 900 animal bites and rabies-related incidents. At the time, officials estimated that less than 10% of the 50,000 dogs in the province were actually vaccinated.

This alarming gap led to the 2003 Provincial Dog and Rabies Control Ordinance to help stop the spread. But while local laws and Animal Bite Treatment Centers are important, treating bites after they happen isn't enough.

What if we tackled the root of the problem together?
Enter the One Health framework! We can stop rabies at its source by acknowledging the direct link between human health, animal health, and our shared environment. Laws are a powerful foundation, but grassroots community action, active education, and responsible pet ownership are what will finally close the gap.
Here at ON3 Kumunity Pawject, we're moving beyond just laws and building a culture of active care. Join us in creating a safer, healthier community for everyone—whether they have two legs or four!
