The Department of Tourism – Region I hosted the Welcome and Opening Ceremonies of the WSL World Junior Championships at The Mansion Estate in San Juan, La Union on January 10, 2026. The event was joined by the Officers of the Association of Tourism Industries and Networks in La Union headed by President Revelie Guevara, along with fellow tourism stakeholders, marking a strong show of support for international sports tourism in the region.

From January 11 to 18, the world’s top junior surfers will take on the legendary waves of The Point in San Juan, La Union as they compete for the coveted 2025 World Junior Champion titles. As the first major event of the season, the championship sets the pace for the year and highlights the next generation of global surfing talent.

Presented by Purefoods and Magnolia 100%, the competition also shines a spotlight on La Union’s iconic surf breaks and its laid-back, welcoming surf culture—further cementing the province’s status as a premier surfing destination in the Philippines.

World Surfer's League 2026 in La Union.

𝗦𝗔𝗡 𝗝𝗨𝗔𝗡, 𝗟𝗔 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗡𝗚 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗟𝗗 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗙 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗘🏄‍♂️🌊🔥

SAN JUAN, LA UNION — Muling itatampok sa pandaigdigang entablado ang bayan ng San Juan matapos itong piliin ng World Surf League (WSL) bilang host ng World Junior Championships at Longboard Tour Qualifying Window ngayong Enero 10 hanggang 26, 2026.

Isasagawa ang World Junior Championships mula Enero 10 hanggang 18, 2026, na susundan naman ng Longboard Tour mula Enero 20 hanggang 26. Inaasahang dadagsa ang mga international surfers mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng mundo upang magtagisan ng galing at makakuha ng mahahalagang ranking points para makapasok sa prestihiyosong World Tour ng WSL.

Tampok sa 2026 edition ang inaabangang laban ng mga international delegations laban sa mga homegrown surfers ng San Juan, La Union, na kilala bilang isa sa mga pangunahing surfing destinations sa bansa.

Para sa mga lokal na sumusuporta sa San Juan squad at sa mga surf fans na sumusubaybay sa mga elite surfers mula sa iba’t ibang bansa, ang kaganapang ito ay isang makasaysayang tagpo na muling maglalagay sa San Juan sa sentro ng world-class surfing.

Sa pamamagitan ng event na ito, inaasahang mas lalo pang mapapalakas ang turismo, sports development, at pandaigdigang pagkilala sa bayan ng San Juan.

Known for its centuries-old churches, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Ilocos Region turns a new leaf as Benjamin D. Manahan Jr. takes on the helm of Department of Tourism (DOT) 's Region 1.

A seasoned marketing, event, and business development professional, Manahan took his oath before Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco at the DOT Central Office in Makati on Wednesday, January 7.

The newly appointed official is taking over a thriving tourism portfolio of Region 1. As of September 2025, the Ilocos Region recorded 1.253 million tourist arrivals, generating an estimated two billion in tourism receipts.
