PDRRMO La Union Extends Assistance to Benguet in Search and Rescue Operation

In the spirit of Agkaysa, the Provincial Government of La Union, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), responded to a request for assistance from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bagulin regarding a suspected drowning incident involving a 29-year-old male from Sagubo, Kapangan, Benguet.

The incident was reported after the victim, who was believed to have gone fishing on September 1, failed to return home. Search and rescue efforts were initially conducted by local responders in Kapangan, with composite SAR teams continuing the search on September 6.

Considering that the waterway involved connects to the Balili River in Bagulin and eventually exits toward Naguilian, La Union, the LGU of Bagulin sought the assistance of the PDRRMO La Union. The LGU Bagulin also joined the search and rescue operation, together with personnel from the Philippine Army, Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Coordination was likewise initiated with concerned local responders within the affected areas of La Union to monitor and check their respective Areas of Responsibility (AORs).

The PDRRMO La Union remains committed to mutual assistance, inter-agency coordination, and cooperation with neighboring provinces and local government units, particularly in times when collective action and shared resources are needed.

Please do not underestimate the dangers brought by inclement weather. When conditions are unsafe, avoid entering or staying near bodies of water and prioritize the safety of yourself and your loved ones.
