Anchor Verse:
After this, aware that everything was now finished,
in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled,
Jesus said, "I thirst."
There was a vessel filled with common wine.
So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop
and put it up to his mouth.
When Jesus had taken the wine, he said,
"It is finished."
And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.."

Reflection/Sharing
FOR YOU
When Jesus says, "I thirst," it's not just a statement about His body. It's a cry that echoes through time, reaching straight to you. Jesus didn't just come to redeem the world in some distant, impersonal way. He came to redeem you. Every moment He walked this earth, He was looking for you. When He hung on the cross, He wasn't just thinking of humanity in general; He was thinking of you. He thirsts for you, for your heart, for you to look at Him and see the hope He offers in the middle of your sin. FOR YOU.
"I thirst" is not just physical. It's a deep, aching need for you to look up from your brokenness and meet His eyes. He is the only one who can pull you from the darkness of sin and into the light of His love. In the sour wine on the hyssop, He drinks the bitterness of your sins. Not just sins in general, but yours. Every time you fall short, every time you turn away, He takes it all upon Himself. He drinks it in, absorbing the bitter taste of your failures, of your wounds. He does this FOR YOU.
When He says, "It is finished," it's a declaration for you. The work He came to do is complete. He did it to restore you. He did it so you could be whole again, so you could stand before Him, redeemed and loved. It's finished. FOR YOU.
And when He bows His head and gives up His spirit, it's not an end. It's a gift. He's giving Himself completely, not just for the world, but for you. In your thirst, in your struggle, in your sin, He is there. He's never distant. He's always with you, inviting you to look to Him, and ask Him to heal what's broken. FOR YOU.
Let that love change you. Let it draw you closer, until you can't help but respond to the one who thirsts FOR YOU.
