WHEN THE WATERS RISE, WHERE IS OUR HOPE?
The rain keeps falling. Homes are flooded, livelihoods are compromised, and where the authorities should have provided support and protection, GREED took its place.
What we experience is not something new. During the time of Adam, after man fell into temptation, sin had already corrupted every human heart and every work of human hands.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." (Romans 5:12)
What fails us today is not merely one broken system; it is the sin humanity has carried from the beginning.
It is right to grieve; it is right to long for justice. But it would be a greater tragedy to anchor our hope where it cannot hold.
"Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help." (Psalm 146:3)
"Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God." (Psalm 146:5)
No man, no office, no institution can carry our salvation. Only Christ can, and He did not stay far from our suffering; He ENTERED it. He is "a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief" (Isaiah 53:3), God become man, who SUFFERED MORE than any of us, and not for His own sin, but for ours.
"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)
There, mercy and justice meet. God did not excuse our iniquity; He answered it in full, "that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus" (Romans 3:26). And it is not earned: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God." (Ephesians 2:8)
So lift your eyes. "The things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:18)
The floodwaters are devastating but temporary. God's judgment for sin and punishment is eternal, but so is the SALVATION and ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord.
