"🌿💚 Celebrating World Wetlands Day 2026! 🌿💚

February 3,2026

The Inner Wheel Club of Central San Fernando La Union joined 43 volunteers from various organizations to plant 200 mangroves (bungalon and Bakauan lalake) along Baroro River, Bacnotan, La Union, organized by DMMMSU Environmental Concerns, Sustainability and Development (ECSD) Unit. This initiative highlights the importance of preserving wetland ecosystems, promoting sustainable management, and supporting local communities.

Mangroves provide crucial environmental services, including habitat for aquatic life, erosion control, and carbon sequestration. Empowered communities play a vital role in sustainable mangrove management, supporting livelihoods and environmental governance.

The club provided the snacks which every volunteer partook after the meaningful event.

Kudos to our partners and volunteers who made this event a success! 🙌

The Inner Wheel Club of Central San Fernando La Union joined the Webinar on Mental Health spearheaded by the Inner Wheel Club of Downtown Dagupan, D379 led by their President Mehl Garcia.

Mind Matters: It's Okay Not to Be Okay:

Breaking the Silence on Mental Health

There were 55 participants from the 15 clubs of D379.including students and friends invited by the members.

The Guest Lecturer was Ms. Crescia May Nebrida, a faculty member of the University of Pangasinan.

This project is vital and timely in as much as Mental Health is just as important as physical health, but it's often stigmatized or ignored. The truth is, 1 in 5 Filipinos will experience a mental health issue in their lifetime (WHO, 2020). Anxiety, depression, trauma – these struggles are real, and they can affect anyone.

The pressure to be perfect, to succeed, to keep up can be overwhelming. Our Guest Lecturer emphasized that *it's okay not to be okay*. and asking for help takes courage, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

By trying to break the stigma, by talking about one's feelings, by reaching out to a trusted friend or a mental health professional, and by prioritizing self-care, one feels that she is not alone.

Kudos to IWC Downtown Dagupan! The webinar was a great success!

Today, the 4 IWCs of La Union conducted a collaboration project entitled

We "Cancervive "3.0
A Breast Cancer Talk

The event was held at SLC Mac Donald's , Lingsat, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Through our collective efforts we've taken meaningful steps to empower women, promote early detection, and show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer*.

Breast cancer touches lives far and wide. By raising awareness, we’re not just sharing facts; we’re sharing hope. We’re reminding every woman that she’s not alone, that screenings save lives, and that support is available every step of the way.

This inspiring event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and provide hope and support to cancer patients and survivors. The highlight of the program was the talk by Dra. Marie Angeline Ganiban-Casino from the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC), who shared valuable insights on breast cancer awareness, early detection, and prevention.

Breast cancer survivors Mrs. Marie Jane Las Marias and Mrs. Shella A. Manthey gave heartfelt and inspiring testimonies about their journeys of courage, faith, and recovery—offering encouragement to others facing the same battle.

The event was filled with hope, learning, and joy as participants received tokens and raffle prizes, making the day both meaningful and memorable. Everyone went home inspired to continue the fight against cancer—with strength, unity, and love.

This project is a reminder that small acts, when multiplied by many, create ripples of change.

This collaboration project is an affirmation of our desire and advocacy as an organization to always step up and lead by example.

Empowering Girls of D379

Today, D379 with its 15 Clubs conducted a collaboration project on

*Cervical Cancer Vaccination *

This is a comprehensive initiative spearheaded by IPDC Vyan Venice Chua together with DC Mary Jean Gayondato Mejia providing HPV vaccination to protect against cervical cancer, targeting vulnerable populations, particularly young girls and women. The project aims to reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates, promoting health and well-being.

There were 11 patients/girls for the first batch 2nd dose and 18 patients/girls for the second batch first dose.

It was attended by no less than NP Minnie Elizaga , IPNP Maria Ditas Crisostomo and other NBOT officials.

Since cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide, vaccination can prevent up to 90% of HPV-related cancers. This project empowers women, saves lives, and reduces healthcare burdens.

*SDGs Hit by this project are the following:*

1. *SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being* (reduce non-communicable diseases)
2. *SDG 5: Gender Equality* (empower women and girls)
3. *SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities* (improve health access for vulnerable populations)

By vaccinating against HPV, this project contributes to achieving these critical SDGs, ultimately enhancing women's health and well-being.

An impactful project of the District meant to step up and lead by example as our club does its share to help uplift and empower the lives of women and girls.
