Hi, I’m Lurs Roque, 27, proudly from Pampanga

My childhood wasn’t a fairytale. Growing up with a single mom, we moved from one borrowed room to another, each relative’s house a temporary haven, each place filled with love yet marked by a quiet loneliness. This constant moving taught me to be adaptable, to anticipate needs, and to grow up fast, even when all I wanted was space to discover who I truly was.

Looking back, it was clear: I always had a thing for girls. I tried dating boys because of pressure, but those relationships were never right, often leaving me hurt and unseen. It was through that hurt that I realized what I truly wanted—a relationship built on respect, genuine connection, and love. That’s when I accepted it: I’m a le***an, and I am proud of it. I know what women deserve, and I’m ready to give it to them.

Today, I juggle running a staycation and events business, working a call center gig, cramming for my architecture exams, and helping with my family’s business. It’s a busy life, but I’m learning to handle everything life throws my way.

I know many in the LGBTQIA+ community face unfair treatment, but I believe that by showing our contributions to society, we can change perceptions. We are not a plague or a mistake; we are valuable, skilled, and capable of achieving great things.

In ten years, I will prove that education and hard work are not wasted, and that LGBTQIA+ individuals can achieve lasting, meaningful contributions to society. I will show that families can be built on love, regardless of gender, and that we can raise children in homes filled with respect, acceptance, and stability. As an educated and faith-grounded individual, I believe in the power of love, acceptance, and forgiveness, just as God’s love is unconditional for all of us.

I am here to prove that we, as le***ans and as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, are strong, capable, and worthy of respect. By living my truth loudly and proudly, I hope to inspire others to embrace who they are and to build the life they deserve, because love and kindness are for everyone, no matter who you are.

Pride colors bathe the National Museum of Fine Arts building in Manila in celebration of Pride Month. As part of the National Museum of the Philippines' "display of allyship and support" for the LGBT community, they have put up Pride flags in all of their museums.

The National Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free. 🏳️‍🌈 (📸: NMP/Facebook)
