"We need to cut trees for development" - DENR

'Development' that means cutting down trees amid the worsening climate crisis is not real development.

As extreme heat and flooding intensify, we need trees and green spaces even more to help protect the health, livelihoods, and safety of our communities. Development should be centered on people and the environment, not on their destruction.

We strongly condemn the massacre of trees under the San Miguel Corporationโ€™s SALEX Project and urge authorities to not just suspend but PERMANENTLY CANCEL plans to cut more trees.

The Philippines nowadays experiencing an isolating, polluted, and crowded communities, due to lack of urban planning.

Urbanization is reshaping our citiesโ€”but sometimes not for the better, especially if it is poorly managed. This leads to overcrowding, a huge contributor to pollution, and declining quality of life, as seen in worsening air conditions and limited green spaces.

This issue is one of the common contributor to Global Warming due to lack of green spaces that absorb carbon dioxide and other toxic gas.

But thereโ€™s a way forward. Green urbanization offers a solutionโ€”integrating nature into city planning through parks, sustainable transport, renewable energy, and eco-friendly infrastructure.

๐ŸŒฑ Cleaner air.
๐ŸŒฑ Healthier communities.
๐ŸŒฑ When a cities and nature thrive together; it brings brighter, healthier, and safer community.

Question: Do you see your community as well organized? How?

A pleasant day.

We encourage everyone to join us in our workshop on tree planting on May 11-12, 2026 at Cabaroan, San Emilio, Ilocos Sur, with the theme: Branching out: Uniting for a Greener and Healthier World.

We aim to promote and act for the betterment of our environmentโ€” decreasing the severe heat on our community. This helps not only you as an individual but also our dear farmers.Your participation is highly appreciated.

That the Causes of Global Warming are:

1. Greenhouse gases are the primary cause of global warming. These gases include carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, methane, and certain compounds containing chlorine and bromine. The accumulation of these gases in the atmosphere disrupts radiative equilibrium, leading to the heating of Earth's surface and lower atmosphere. Greenhouse gases absorb some of Earth's incoming radiation and re-radiate it back to the surface.

2. The depletion of the ozone layer, which is partly due to gases containing chlorine. These gases dissociate chlorine atoms when exposed to ultraviolet light, which then catalyze the destruction of ozone. In addition, aerosols contribute to global warming in two ways. First, they scatter and absorb solar and infrared radiation. Second, they can alter the microphysical and chemical properties of clouds, affecting their lifetime and duration. While scattering of solar radiation by aerosols can have a cooling effect on the planet, the absorption of solar radiation by aerosols actively warms the atmosphere, preventing Earth's surface from absorbing sunlight.

3. Human activities contribute to aerosol levels in the atmosphere in various ways:

A. ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ง๐  ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐…๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฅ ๐…๐ฎ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฌ

Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) releases massive amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. These gases blanket the planet, trapping the sun's heatโ€”a process known as the greenhouse effectโ€”which prevents it from escaping into space, ultimately causing global temperatures to rise.

B. ๐ƒ๐ž๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง

Deforestation fuels global warming by releasing stored carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and removing trees that absorb emissions. When forests are burned or cleared, they stop acting as carbon "sinks" and become carbon sources, accounting for roughly 10โ€“13% of total global greenhouse gas emissions.

C. ๐”๐ซ๐›๐š๐ง๐ข๐ณ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง

Construction and demolition activities create dust clouds which, when resuspended by wind or traffic, contribute to levels of suspended particulate matter. This often underestimated phenomenon significantly impacts air pollution in urban areas, especially in growing cities.
