Hindi laging may ulan pagkatapos ng tagtuyot, hindi laging umaagos ang tubig sa lupang bitak-bitak, at hindi laging may bukas para sa mga pamayanang unti-unting nauubusan ng likas na yaman.

Ang kalikasan ay parang ilog—patuloy na umaagos, nagbibigay-buhay, at bumubuhay sa mga komunidad. Ngunit kapag hinarangan, sinira, at inagawan ito ng pagkakataong makabawi, hindi lamang tubig ang nawawala. Kasama nitong natutuyo ang kabuhayan, kalusugan, seguridad, at pag-asa ng mga taong umaasa rito.

Ang 𝗣𝗔𝗫 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮 ay hindi simpleng usapin ng pag-unlad. Kapag ang mga proyektong nakaaapekto sa ating mga ilog, kabundukan, sakahan, at pamayanan ay isinusulong nang walang sapat na proteksiyon sa kalikasan at sa mamamayan, ang kapalit ay pangmatagalang pinsala na hindi kayang tumbasan ng panandaliang pakinabang.

Hindi dapat maging presyo ng “𝙥𝙖𝙜-𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙖𝙙” ang tuyong ilog, nasirang kalikasan, at kinabukasang walang katiyakan. Kung may tunay na pag-asa para sa susunod na henerasyon, dapat itong magsimula sa pangangalaga sa kalikasan at sa pakikinig sa mga pamayanang direktang maaapektuhan.

Ngayong 𝗔𝗴𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗼 𝟮𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, ginugunita ang 𝗶𝗸𝗮-𝟰𝟯 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗼 ng pagpanaw ng dating senador 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼 “𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘆” 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗝𝗿. Bukod sa pag-alala sa kaniyang sakripisyo, sana magsilbi itong paalala na ang kalayaan ay hindi basta-basta nakamit, kundi bunga ng matagal na pakikibaka ng mga Filipino na nag-alay ng kanilang sarili para sa bayan.

Nagsisimula pa lamang ang pasukan, sunod-sunod na ang suspensyon ng klase dulot ng mga bagyo, habagat, at pagbaha. Para sa mga estudyanteng kailangang bumiyahe, lumusong sa baha, at maghanap ng masasakyan pauwi, ang suspensyon ay hindi lamang simpleng pagkaantala sa pag-aaral. Isa itong kinakailangang hakbang upang maprotektahan ang buhay at kaligtasan ng bawat isa.

Ngunit kasabay ng pangambang dulot ng mabigat na pagbagsak ng ulan, ay ang takot ng mga estudyanteng haharapin ang paglusong sa baha, ang siksikang biyahe pauwi, at ang maiwan sa aralin. Maaaring habulin ang mga gawain, ayusin ang iskedyul, at magsagawa ng online classes, ngunit hindi dapat ipinagpapalit ang panandaliang ginhawa sa tunay na seguridad, pangangailangan, at karapatan ng masa.

Higit pa rito, hindi pare-pareho ang kalagayan ng bawat mag-aaral. Sa gitna ng kalamidad, may mga estudyanteng pilit na sinasalo ang bawat patak ng ulan upang protektahan ang tahanan at pamilya. Hindi makatarungang ipalagay na kayang ipagpatuloy ng lahat ang pag-aaral na parang walang nangyayari. Ang edukasyon ay dapat para sa lahat, ngunit hindi ito nangangahulugang pare-pareho ang kakayahan ng lahat na makapagpatuloy sa panahon ng sakuna.

Kung sa kaligtasan, malinaw ang paninindigan; nararapat mapanatili ang matatag na sistema, tapat na serbisyo, at seguridad para sa bawat mamamayan.

Bilang mga estudyante, hindi dapat tumitigil sa suspensyon ang ating tugon. Ang paulit-ulit na pagbaha ay hindi lamang usapin ng suspensyon ng klase; kailangang matinig ang alingawngaw na laban sa kapangyarihang hindi nananagot. Huwag nating hayaang mabaon sa limot ang mga bangketang lumulubog sa ilalim ng mga paang umiiwas sa responsibilidad—hindi magbabago ang itsura ng pagsubok, hangga't walang nananagot.
