In the latest social media post of Vice Mayor Arlene Genove on her page Serbisyong Genove, she emphasized the importance of “Consistency” as the Word of the Week—a simple word, yet one with deep meaning in genuine public service.
During this week’s Flag Raising Ceremony led by the Sangguniang Bayan Office, she reminded everyone that excellent public service is not a one-time act, but a daily commitment for the welfare of the people.
She stated, “Avoid short-lived enthusiasm. Maintain energy, discipline, and dedication in everyday service.”
This serves as a meaningful reminder, especially for those in government, that service is not measured by beautiful words alone, but by repeatedly and sincerely doing what is right—even when no one is watching and when there is no applause, no likes, and no shares.
She also emphasized that no public servant needs to be perfect, but it is important to have a strong conviction to do what is right at every opportunity.
In the end, the true measure of a leader is not how well they speak, but how they serve their people with open hands and tireless dedication.
Commentary: Consistency or Convenience?
The word “Consistency” is often heard in the speeches of public officials, but the real question is: is it truly practiced, or does it remain only in social media captions?
In today’s time, it is easy to post inspirational messages. It is easy to talk about dedication, compassion, and service. But what is more difficult is proving it every single day—in the office, in decision-making, and in dealing with ordinary citizens.
Consistency is not only about attending flag ceremonies or posting a “Word of the Week.” It is measured by being present when the town faces problems, by fairness in making decisions, and by being open to the concerns of the people.
Many officials are good with words but lacking in action. There are also some who remain quiet, yet their service is deeply felt. This is where the true meaning of consistency comes in—the continuous act of doing what is right, even without cameras.
If “Consistency” becomes the guiding principle of every public servant, public trust in government will become stronger.
Because in the end, people will not remember titles—they will remember genuine service that never stops.
