Reticulated Pythons Safely Released at DAO Falls
City Mayor Al David T. Uy, together with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office led by Atty. Iryshell P. Villegas, REB, successfully released two (2) Reticulated Python (Malayopython reticulatus) at DAO Falls earlier today, August 20, 2024.
The pythons, one weighing between 40-45 kilograms and measuring approximately 13 feet in length, and the other weighing 2 kilograms and measuring around 4 feet, were turned over by concerned residents of San Isidro, Babak. Ronald Solis handed over the larger python, while Jackson Somoroy turned over the smaller one. These remarkable reptiles, known for their size and strength, are among the longest snake species in the world and play a vital role in maintaining the balance of the local ecosystem.
The release was carefully managed by City ENRO staff to ensure the python's safe return to the wild, where it can continue to thrive and contribute to the biodiversity of Samal Island. This effort highlights the importance of coexisting with our wildlife and protecting the natural beauty of our environment.
