SINCE 33 A.D. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS MAINTAINED AN UNBROKEN LINE OF APOSTOLIC SUCCESSION

Since 33 A.D., the Church has maintained an unbroken line of apostolic succession, beginning with the apostles, including St. Peter, whom Catholics recognize as the first pope, through to Pope Leo XIV. This succession is believed to ensure the Church's continuity, doctrinal integrity, and authority, with each pope considered the spiritual successor of St. Peter. The tradition of apostolic succession is central to Catholic ecclesiology, affirming that the pope's authority derives directly from the apostles, passing through an unbroken chain of bishops, culminating in the current pope.
