This day marked the 𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒂𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓. It was a time to honor the 𝒅𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒔𝒂𝒄𝒓𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒆𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 of our outgoing officers who gave their 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆, 𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆. Your leadership has left a 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕, and your 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒄𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒖𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒍.

𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐌𝐔𝐂𝐇 “𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐀” 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐆𝐄𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐒?

𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒛 𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒉 𝒏𝒐𝒘?

Most towns in Capiz are nearing the end of their 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plans, which need to be updated under Republic Act No. 9003. To do this properly, local governments must first understand how much waste they actually produce—and that’s where studies come in.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝑾𝑨𝑪𝑺, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒓𝒆?

The Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) looks at how much waste is generated, what kind of waste it is, and where it comes from. With the support of Governor Fredenil H. Castro and led by CaPENRO, this study was rolled out across the province to help municipalities plan smarter, cleaner, and more effective waste management programs.

𝑾𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒔𝒕—𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕—𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆?

The WACS data show varying waste generation levels among municipalities in Capiz. In terms of waste generated per person per day, Tapaz recorded the highest at 0.0199 kg/person/day, followed by Cuartero at 0.0188 and Dao at 0.0164. Sapian posted 0.0162, Sigma 0.0138, and Jamindan 0.0126, while Ivisan registered 0.0093. Pilar and Panitan had the lowest per capita waste generation at 0.0079 and 0.0076 kg/person/day, respectively.

For total waste generated per day from all sources, Jamindan produced the highest at 4,920.42 kg/day, followed by Tapaz with 3,673.94 kg/day and Ivisan with 3,089.05 kg/day. Dao generated 2,207.53 kg/day and Cuartero 2,011.06 kg/day. Sigma recorded 1,537.11 kg/day, Panitan 1,636.91 kg/day, and Sapian 1,212.11 kg/day, while Pilar had the lowest total daily waste at 805.53 kg/day.

The municipalities of President Roxas and Dumarao are currently in the process of consolidating and analyzing their collected data as part of the WACS implementation. Meanwhile, the Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) in the Municipality of Pontevedra is still ongoing, with field activities and waste assessments actively being conducted.

𝑺𝒐, 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒙𝒕?

The results of the WACS will guide the updating and approval of each municipality’s 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan—from setting waste reduction targets to improving collection systems, materials recovery facilities, and disposal methods. It’s all part of Capiz’s push for data-driven, eco-friendly waste management.
