**SELG Leads the Way in Teaching Grade 1 Pupils How to Read***

**PROJECT BASA: SELG LEADS THE WAY IN TEACHING GRADE 1 PUPILS HOW TO READ**

In a powerful demonstration of **leadership*, *compassion*, and *civic responsibility*, the *Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG)* proudly launches a meaningful literacy initiative under *Project BASA*, aimed at *helping Grade 1 pupils develop foundational reading skills*.

Recognizing that *reading is the cornerstone of all learning*, this project brings together young leaders from the SELG to serve not only as **role models**, but also as **mentors and reading buddies** to younger learners. Through **structured reading sessions**, **interactive storytelling**, and **guided phonics activities**, the SELG is helping to build both the *skills* and the *confidence* that every child needs to become a **lifelong reader**.

This initiative is more than just an academic activity — it is a living example of **peer-to-peer education** in action. By empowering student leaders to take an active role in supporting early literacy, we are cultivating a culture of **service**, **empathy**, and **academic excellence** across all grade levels.

**Project BASA** reinforces the belief that *leadership is not about titles, but about action* — and that every learner, regardless of age, can make a difference in their school and community. With guidance from their advisers and support from school administrators, SELG members are proving that **student-led initiatives** can have a lasting, positive impact on the lives of others.

As the Supreme Elementary Learner Government, we believe that leadership starts with responsibility—and one of the best ways to show that is by taking care of the place we all share: our school.
Cleaning isn’t just about picking up trash or sweeping floors. It’s about respect—for our environment, for our classmates, and for ourselves. When we keep our school clean, we create a space where everyone can learn better, feel safer, and be proud of where they belong.
We are proud to lead by example and take part in this cleaning effort. Together, we can make our classrooms shine, our hallways sparkle, and our playgrounds safe and welcoming.
