A Day to Remember: Celebrating History, Culture, and Friendship 🇵🇭🇪🇸
Despite the rainy weather, the day unfolded as a beautiful reminder that meaningful experiences are created not by perfect conditions, but by the people we share them with.
We were truly grateful to spend the day with our dear Spanish volunteers—Marta, Alejandra, Raúl, and Aitana—as we explored some of Manila’s most significant historical, cultural, and religious landmarks.
Our journey began at the University of Santo Tomas (UST), Manila, where we had the distinct privilege of meeting Fr. Angel Aparicio. Although classes had been suspended due to the inclement weather, Fr. Angel warmly welcomed us and generously took the time to guide us through the historic UST Library. His fascinating stories and valuable insights into its centuries-old history and remarkable collections enriched our visit and deepened our appreciation for one of Asia’s oldest educational institutions.
We then continued to the historic Walled City of Intramuros, where we enjoyed a delightful lunch at Barbara’s Heritage Restaurant. As we shared a meal together, our volunteers were treated to an engaging cultural presentation featuring traditional Filipino folk dances and music. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience the beauty, diversity, and enduring spirit of Filipino culture.

Although the rain accompanied us throughout the day, it only added to the uniqueness of our journey. Every stop became an opportunity not only to discover the rich history and heritage of our country but also to strengthen the bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and cultural exchange.
To our beloved Spanish volunteers, thank you for your generous hearts and your unwavering dedication in serving Cottolengo Filipino and PAOFI. Your compassion, humility, and willingness to share your time and talents have been a true blessing to our community. Your presence has left a lasting impact, and we are deeply grateful for the joy and hope you have brought to those you have served.
As your journey continues, we pray that God will bless and guide you in every step. May the friendships you have formed, the experiences you have shared, and the memories you have created in the Philippines remain in your hearts for years to come.
Distance may separate us, but the bonds of friendship, service, and love will always keep us connected.
