After years without a campus fun run, RNSAT once again filled its grounds and surrounding roads with camaraderie, and purpose as 471 students, teachers, alumni, and community partners took part in the 10-kilometer RunFest in celebration of Nutrition Month.
Beyond the finish line, the event served as a reminder that every kilometer covered represented more than physical endurance. It symbolized a shared commitment to health, and environmental stewardship.
Leading the pack was Christian Erro Manuel, a 17-year-old student of Kalinga State University and a three-time regional qualifier in both sprint and distance track events, who crossed the finish line with the fastest time.
He was followed by Mark Hayden Cabilangan, Heart Lee Buracho, Wilfredo Miniado, and Oliver Apan, completing the Top 5 finishers of the race.
For many participants, however, the event was never solely about winning. It was about embracing a healthier lifestyle and proving that every individual, regardless of pace, could take meaningful steps toward personal well-being.
According to personnel from the Rural Health Unit (RHU), activities such as fun runs play an important role in the holistic development of young people.
"Activities like this are essential for teenagers because they support their overall development. They also promote better mental health by encouraging young people to stay active and adopt healthier lifestyles," an RHU staff member shared.
After the race, participants gathered for a feeding program led by the RNSAT Administration, while the celebration continued with a tree-planting activity.
The activity was spearheaded by the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) in partnership with the Science Department, with the support of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG). It was also conducted in collaboration with the Rural Health Unit (RHU), Local Government Unit (LGU), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) as part of the school's Nutrition Month celebration.
The successful program was made possible through the leadership of YES-O and Science Club advisers, Ripple Jane Bato and Flordeliza Pan-i, the Science Club, SSLG officers and partner agencies (RHU, PNP, BFP) whose collective efforts promoted health, environmental responsibility, and community participation during the Nutrition Month celebration.
