TYPHOON BETTY FURTHER WEAKENS OVER THE SEA EAST OF BATANES
Location of Center (4:00 AM):
• The center of the eye of Typhoon BETTY was estimated based on all available data at 350 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.2°N, 125.3°E)
• Intensity:
Maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 955 hPa
• Present Movement:
North northwestward at 10 km/h
• Extent of Tropical Cyclone Winds:
Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 630 km from the center

LUZON
Batanes and the northeastern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga) including Babuyan Islands

> Wind threat: Strong winds
> Warning lead time: 36 hours
> Range of wind speeds: 39 to 61 km/h (Beaufort 6 to 7)
> Potential impacts of winds: Minimal to minor threat to life and property
LUZON
The rest of mainland Cagayan, the northern and eastern portions of Isabela (Santo Tomas, Santa Maria, Quezon, San Mariano, Dinapigue, Delfin Albano, San Pablo, Ilagan City, Benito Soliven, Tumauini, Cabagan, Palanan, Quirino, Divilacan, Gamu, Maconacon, Naguilian, Mallig), the eastern portion of Ilocos Norte (Piddig, Bangui, Vintar, Marcos, Pagudpud, Banna, Adams, Carasi, Dingras, Solsona, Dumalneg, Nueva Era), Apayao, the northern portion of Kalinga (City of Tabuk, Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Rizal), and the northeastern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong)

Heavy Rainfall Outlook
Forecast accumulated rainfall from today to tomorrow early morning
• 50-100 mm: The southern portions of Ilocos Sur and the northern portion of La Union.
Forecast accumulated rainfall from tomorrow early morning to Thursday early morning
• 50-100 mm: Ilocos Sur and La Union.
Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazard as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days.

Severe Winds
• Wind Signals in some areas of Luzon have been lifted.
• Minor to moderate impacts caused by gale-force winds remain possible within the areas where Wind Signal No. 2 is hoisted. Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds (i.e., strong breeze to near gale strength) are also possible within any of the areas where Wind Signal No.1 is currently in effect.
• The enhanced Southwest Monsoon and outer periphery of the typhoon circulation will also bring occasional gusts in the next 24 hours over Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Aurora, Quezon, Mindoro Provinces, Marinduque, Romblon, Northern Samar, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Norte that are not under any Wind Signal
HAZARDS AFFECTING COASTAL WATERS
Under the influence of Typhoon BETTY and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon, a marine gale warning remains in effect over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboards of Central Luzon, the seaboards of Southern Luzon, and the seaboards of Visayas. For more information, refer to Gale Warning #6 issued at 5:00 AM today.
TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK
• Although slight acceleration remains a possibility in the next 12 hours, Typhoon BETTY is forecast to generally move slowly between today and tomorrow as it turns more northward over the waters east of Batanes. Afterwards, the typhoon will gradually accelerate north northeastward on Thursday and northeastward on Friday, bringing its center over the waters southeast of the Ryukyu Islands. Typhoon BETTY may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Friday.
• This typhoon is forecast to steadily weaken over the next five days due to cooler ocean waters (caused by upwelling of cooler waters in its wake), dry air intrusion, and increasing vertical wind shear. BETTY may be downgraded into a severe tropical storm on late Thursday or early Friday and into a tropical storm on late Friday or early Saturday. However, given the extent of the effect of dry air intrusion on the typhoon, a faster weakening rate within the forecast period is not ruled out.
Considering these developments, the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Persons living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
