Why do we need to remove the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse?

The Reality of Trauma: Child survivors experience "frozen trauma." Delayed disclosure is a psychological reality, not a choice.

The Cultural Barrier: In the Philippines, deep-seated concepts like hiya, utang na loob, and pressure to protect close-knit family structures act as silent walls that shield perpetrators.

By the time a survivor finds the emotional and financial independence to speak out, current laws have often already "timed them out" of the justice system.

Critics worry about due process. But removing the deadline doesn't lower the standard of proof or remove the right to cross-examination. Backed by modern trauma-informed investigations and the international Méndez Principles, our legal system is fully equipped to handle historical cases safely and reliably.

The State's duty to protect children must override arbitrary calendar dates. Let's pass a law where justice never runs out of time.
