The IUCN-NC Philippines, in partnership with the Department of Economy, Planning and Development, conducted a learning event for Stakeholders' Chamber on the SDG focused on Nature-based Solutions (NbS).

The learning event featured a series of talks that introduced participants to the concepts, approaches, and applications of Nature-based Solutions, highlighting their potential to address environmental and development challenges while supporting sustainable and resilient communities and economies.

The event concluded with an interactive workshop where chamber members explored how they could integrate and mainstream Nature-based Solutions into their respective work, programs, and initiatives. The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to translate the concepts discussed during the learning sessions into practical actions and identify opportunities for applying NbS within their own areas of work.

The officers and members of the IUCN National Committee Philippines, together with the IUCN Regional Director for Asia, Dr. Dindo Campilan, paid a courtesy meeting to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary, Atty. Mitch Cuna. The meeting served as an opportunity to formally introduce the newly established National Committee to the DENR leadership, present its strategic plan and priorities, and discuss its alignment with the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.

During the meeting, the IUCN National Committee Philippines conveyed its commitment to supporting the Department’s biodiversity conservation and sustainable development priorities and identified key areas where the Committee can contribute to achieving DENR’s goals. The Committee also expressed its interest in being represented in relevant technical working groups to further strengthen collaboration and provide technical and strategic support in advancing national biodiversity and conservation initiatives.

The IUCN National Committee of the Philippines held its first meeting for 2026 on February 10, 2026, at the Foundation for the Philippine Environment office.

During the meeting, members discussed the National Committee’s strategic plan, key activities and engagements for 2026, and pressing biodiversity issue that needs to be addressed immediately.

Notably, all participating organizations were represented by women — a meaningful and inspiring way to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Here’s to strong women leaders advancing biodiversity conservation and shaping a more sustainable future for the Philippines! 🌏💚
