THE BAHAYNIHAN BUILD
In celebration of the National Habitat Day
October 11, 2014
Theme: “Rebuilding Homes, Rebuilding Lives, Rebuilding Cooperative Communities”
Abuyog, Leyte
Perusal
Volunteers are gathered to help in construction of houses for the homeless cooperative communities during disaster. Bahaynihan Build is similar to Bahaynihan equity wherein people are working together so that a com
munity will reap and share in a bountiful blessing like housing. In Bahaynihan build, volunteers are working together to achieve noble goal and equitably sharing the fruits of effort. The “Bahaynihan Equity”
Bahaynihan comes from the words: "Bahay" means house and "Bayanihan" a Filipino waord that can manifest itself in many forms but most clearly and impressively displayed in the old tradition of neighbors helping a relocating family by getting enough volunteers to carry the whole house, and literally moving it to its new location. Bahaynihan Equity is the term used by NEDC to the contribution of its possible member-beneficiaries in a form of effort during the rebuilding project or construction of houses. This is also one of the criteria to qualify as member-beneficiaries of the unit. The National Habitat Day
Is the one day set aside annually to recognize the basic right of all humanity to adequate shelter, and to encourage grassroots action toward ending poverty in housing. The United Nations General Assembly declared in 1985 that the first Monday in October would be World Habitat Day. But today, we will celebrate the National Habitat Day whole month of August. OUR GOAL:
• To partake in the rebuilding of cooperative communities project after Yolanda by doing volunteer works in construction;
• To experience and awaken the heart of young Filipinos about the essence of bayanihan values and culture;
• To promote the basic right of all humanity to adequate shelter; and
• To continue to live and to walk the talk of cooperative values and principles. What do we do during Bahaynihan Build? Kindly refer to the person-in-charge from IPs
