Legal, Income Generation, and Total Aid Sanitation (L.I.G.T.A.S.) Outreach Program with the women PDLs of Marikina City Jail Female Dormitory
October 16, 2025 – In a powerful demonstration of community collaboration and compassion, the L.I.G.T.A.S. Activity unfolded as a beacon of hope for women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) during a meaningful event held from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Spearheaded by the Inner Wheel Club (IWC) of Holy Spirit in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Pateros, the project delivered critical knowledge, support, and care to those often overlooked by society.
The activity was held in partnership with the BJMP Marikina City Jail Female Dormitory authorities and aimed to uphold human dignity, promote legal awareness, and support the reintegration journey of PDL through targeted interventions.
Education and Empowerment through Lectures
Nearly 200 PDLs participated in two major awareness sessions:
• A Safe Spaces Act lecture educated 195 PDLs on the importance of creating and respecting safe, inclusive environments free from sexual harassment and abuse.
• A Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) lecture, attended by the same group, deepened understanding of legal protections, gender sensitivity, and the importance of respect in relationships.
These informative discussions were designed not only to inform but also to challenge old mindsets and inspire transformation from within.
Pathways to Livelihood and Reintegration
A separate Livelihood Lecture brought inspiration and practical knowledge to 80 PDLs, introducing potential skills and income-generating opportunities that could support their reintegration into society. Empowering PDLs with vocational insights is a crucial step in preventing recidivism and building a more inclusive community.
Legal Aid and Compassionate Care
Recognizing the often-limited access PDLs have to legal support, the activity provided Legal Consultation services to 20 individuals, allowing them to ask questions and receive guidance on their respective legal concerns.
To further uplift the beneficiaries' well-being, the project also included the distribution of 200 hygiene kits, ensuring that dignity and cleanliness remain part of their daily lives despite difficult circumstances.
Unity in Service
The L.I.G.T.A.S. activity (which stands for Legal, Income Generation, and Total Aid Sanitation) served as a testament to the power of collaborative outreach.
The joint effort of IWC Holy Spirit and the Rotary Club of Metropolitan Pateros reflects their unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and rehabilitation.
As the event concluded, volunteers, legal professionals, and organizers left with a renewed sense of purpose—reminded that every life, regardless of its current circumstance, holds the potential for change.
