Kamusta! 🤗 We are 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜-𝙆𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙮, an independent research team dedicated to developing assistive technology that supports Filipino Sign Language (FSL). Our goal is to improve digital tools for communication, education, and awareness for the Filipino Deaf community.

If you are
✅ a Deaf Filipino
✅ 18 years old or older
✅ using FSL to communicate
then we want to understand your daily experiences as a Deaf person in the Philippines, and your thoughts/knowledge on assistive technology. Your participation will help us develop assistive technologies for you.

On June 4, our team proudly represented CIIT's Computer Science program at this year's 𝘼𝙘𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙪𝙚 (𝗔𝗜𝗗)! 💻💡

We were able to share Saling-Kamay to our school's company partners and gained insightful feedback from industry professionals. This valuable experience really helped reinforce our confidence and motivation. It's always good to know that we're on the right track!

🌻 "𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗞𝗮?" 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 🌱

🎉 We are proud to share that our campaign proposal was selected by judges from 𝐀𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐨 𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐚 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 and the 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 for pilot-testing!

Last month, we had the amazing opportunity to join the GenAI Camp on Bullying Prevention hosted by ADMU. Participants came together to develop digital materials on bullying prevention using generative AI tools. The event was filled with deep discussions on the current situation of peer-to-peer bullying in schools, as well as the ethics and humanity of generative AI.

Inspired by these heartfelt conversations, our team developed "𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗮, 𝗡𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗞𝗮?" - an advocacy campaign for 𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 and 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 that 𝐟𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡. Drawing symbolism from the sampaguita, our national flower, the campaign uses nature as a medium to show children how words and actions can affect others, and how a nurturing environment can help everyone thrive. 🗨️🌞

Our mission is towards a better Philippines. Let's nurture this seed of change and grow a future where no child is left unheard and unseen. ❤️🇵🇭

We were honored to meet so many future illustrators, filmmakers, and programmers who share our passion for a more accessible and inclusive world! 💡💬

Each interaction reminded us why we started Saling-Kamay: to 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 a future where 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻, and to 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙠 a movement that uses technology in 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘂𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, and 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 our fellow Filipinos.

We’re a student-led research initiative developing a 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙘𝙝-𝙩𝙤-𝙁𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙎𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙇𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙖𝙜𝙚 (𝙁𝙎𝙇) system that will reinforce Deaf-focused assistive technologies in the Philippines using AI, computer vision, and neural networks.
