Value Biodiversity
“What is biodiversity?” asked the front desk security of a highly secured building when I arrived to apply for a Schengen visa. I replied “It is the main source for our food, clothes, and house including the air and water we need to survive. Biological diversity or biodiversity is the various plants, animals, microorganisms, including habitats such as the lake, river, ocean, mountains, and cities.” Without helping people understand what is biodiversity, it may be equally difficult to get support from them to value biodiversity as a key component for human’s and all living things’ survival.
As social media is a very popular channel to provide information to the general public, I am taking the challenge to provide practical insights and feature good practices on using biodiversity and more importantly sharing benefits from their utilization that results to the conservation and sustainable use of plants, animals, and microorganisms. Different topics and featured cases will be uploaded on this site through blogs and vlogs. As biodiversity issues and concerns are very broad, this site will focus on the innovative uses of biological resources including its components (oils, genes, and compounds, among others) and how benefits are shared back for conservation and sustainable use. Specifically, topics related to the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity’s Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit Sharing, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s BioTrade will featured.
Nothing more practical to promote the value of biodiversity than by featuring good practices from different countries and sharing insights on trends and issues on access and biodiversity sharing.
As such, follow this page and actively participate in the respectful discussion on different regular featured topics.
