The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) successfully held Special Learning Session No. 8 entitled โSilence of the Lands: Uncovering the Truth Behind Displacementโ last June 20 via Zoom.
This timely and compelling session brought together educators, students, Church leaders, and advocates to examine the harsh realities faced by communities experiencing land displacement, particularly Indigenous Peoples and fisherfolk of Marihangin Island.
Through documentary presentations and deeply moving personal testimonies from leaders such as Ms. Angelica Nasiron and Mr. Romillano Calo, participants were given an unfiltered and firsthand lived experiences of those directly affected by land conflict. These narratives were further enriched by the insights of Mr. Socrates Banzuela, National Coordinator of PAKISAMA, and Most Rev. Socrates Mesiona, Apostolic Vicar of Puerto Princesa, who emphasized the spiritual, social, and moral dimensions of land justice.
The session served not only as an educational opportunity, but also as a call to action. As Catholic educators and members of civil society, we are invited to respond with compassion, courage, and commitment to amplify the voices of the marginalized and integrate advocacy into our educational and spiritual communities.
CEAP extends its gratitude to all the speakers, participants, and partners who continue to walk in solidarity with displaced communities. May this learning session inspire deeper reflection and meaningful action toward justice, peace, and the protection of our common home.
