CAMBODIA MEDICAL MISSION 2025: BRINGING CARE AND HOPE IN RURAL AREAS

GAiN PH team recently joined partners and volunteers from Australia, Canada, the USA, and Cambodia for a two-week medical mission serving remote communities across Cambodia.

Despite long travel hours, intense heat, and unexpected challenges, the team worked side by side to provide compassionate care to families with limited access to healthcare. Along the way, we witnessed the quiet beauty of rural Cambodia. Wide rice fields, hardworking farmers, and peaceful villages, reminding us why this work matters.

Mission Highlights
🗓️ Duration: 2 weeks
🏥 Clinics held: 7
📍 Communities reached: 6
👥 Team: 40+ volunteers
🩺 5 doctors, 2 nurses, 1 pharmacist, student translators, and local partners

Total patients: 1,468
• Adults: 958
• Children: 510+

Beyond consultations and medicines, families received health education, basic eye care, and practical support - small interventions that brought comfort, relief, and dignity.

Thank you to our volunteers, partners on the ground, and every supporter who made this mission possible. The work continues through local leaders who will walk alongside these communities long after the mission.

TYPHOON UWAN RELIEF EFFORTS IN BICOL

GAiN PH, in coordination with Cru Bicol and local volunteers, responded to communities affected by Typhoon Uwan in Albay. Teams assisted families whose homes were damaged, students who had no food or allowance during the storm, and households affected by flooding and water contamination.

Volunteers continued to assist neighbors and students in need despite blocked roads, fallen trees, and poor communication. Many even helped despite having little themselves, showing remarkable resilience and compassion.

Local teams reported that several barangays still had no electricity and many areas continued to face unsafe, polluted water. Even with these challenges, partners shared their gratitude that everyone remained safe, and coordination continues to extend support to more areas in Albay and Catanduanes.

Thank you to our dedicated partners and volunteers who helped make these relief efforts possible. Together, we continue working to serve communities affected by Typhoon Uwan.

GAiN RESPONDS TO CEBU EARTHQUAKE

Last October 3, GAiN PH carried out a relief operation for families affected by the recent 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu. With the help of our local partner Cru Cebu, 150 family packs were repacked in Cebu City and are now being delivered to the following communities:

📍 Brgy. Mahawak, Medellin – 50 packs
📍 Brgy. Antipolo, Medellin – 50 packs
📍 San Remegio – 50 packs

Despite heavy rains and blackouts, our partners are pressing through to get food and water to families in need. These three (3) areas suffered severely as dozens of their residents died during the earthquake, making the support even more urgent.

Relief Operations after Typhoon Emong, Pangasinan.

On July 25, 2025, GAiN Ph (gainph.org) traveled to Pangasinan to aid those affected by Typhoon Emong. This signal number 4 storm had left most of the barangays flooded and a lot of families stranded in their own houses without food.

In partnership with the locals, GAiN was able to help in providing relief goods to a total of 300 families. Our partners had brought with them their abled bodies, own cars, and their boats to deliver these goods to them.

The team was able to distribute to 28 families in Brgy. Cobol, 30 families in Brgy. Bogaoan, 30 families in the town of Urbiztondo, and 30 families in the town of Bautista. One of our faithful contacts, Ptr. Rodencio Flores Jr., will even be carrying these relief bags on his rubber boat to distribute them in areas where the flood water reaches above our heads. The families who received the bags directly from us responded with huge smiles and embraced us joyfully. Seeing their spirits lifted was in itself a beautiful reward.

According to Ptr. Tom Bautista, a total of 600 families in his district alone are affected by flooding. GAiN is able to respond swiftly and generously to help them thanks to your support and giving. Because of your generosity, you have enabled us to aid those affected by calamities. Our bodies are tired, but our hearts are full.

Albay Scholars Camp 2025: A Resounding Success!

We're thrilled to share an update about our recent Scholars Camp, held from June 2-4, 2025, at the beautiful Balai De Mercedes in Ligao, Albay! It was an incredible three days filled with learning, growth, and community.

We had a fantastic group of 47 scholars in attendance, including 20 GAiN scholars and the rest are from other organizations. The venue comfortably accommodated over 60 campers, including our dedicated program facilitators, volunteers, Rod, and Malou.

The camp featured three impactful plenary messages:

Rod Santos kicked things off, teaching on how personal and national transformation begin with the Lordship of Christ.
Malou then shared a powerful message on attaining wholeness through experiencing inner healing.

Inspired by these sessions, all campers made a commitment to pursue excellence, not only in their academic endeavors but also in their spiritual lives.

The final day was dedicated to an educational tour. A knowledgeable geologist conducted a brief session, explaining rock formations and drawing connections to spiritual life. The scholars also had the amazing opportunity to explore Hoyop Hoyopan Cave and Solong Eco Park.

We're also excited to announce that our scholarship program has grown! We now support a total of 91 scholars:
24 in Albay
17 in Zamboanga
50 in Tacloban

If you're moved to help us continue empowering these bright young minds, please consider supporting our scholarship program financially. Click the link below to learn how you can contribute:

Piggery Project using NFS (Natural farming system).

We're excited to share the progress on our Piggery Project in Cagayan Valley, utilizing a Natural Farming System (NFS)! Our model beneficiary, Andong Narag, is leading the way, with the project guided by our GAiN PH coordinators, Lowelyn and Mac Talosig.

Andong has already received 3 pigs, and GAiN PH will extend further help for his project's development by recommending housing design for the pigs (use of rice hull and indigenous materials), feed (as needed), and a farrowing pen (as needed) to ensure long-term sustainability. This initiative champions a natural farming system, using fodder plants and Indigenous Microorganisms (IMO) for "odor-free" piggeries, which also converts pig waste into valuable farm fertilizer. It's all about Farming Integration: restoring soil fertility and reducing synthetic fertilizer use, directly aligning with our FAITH Project (Food Always In The Home).
We would also like to thank our partners at Agape Rural Program (ARP) through the leadership of Engr. Larry Gutierrez for their invaluable training!

Our Pig Dispersal system ensures a powerful ripple effect: those who receive 3 piglets will "pay it forward" by donating 3 piglets to other families once their pigs reproduce. We're currently preparing to welcome more beneficiaries from Cagayan Valley who've met the requirements of planting Madre de Agua (organic food for the pig), making IMO, and preparing their pigpen.

Stay tuned for more updates as we expand this impactful initiative!

GAiN Responds to Myanmar Earthquake (Part 2)

The 5 day immersion trip (April 17-21) to Myanmar, after Rod’s first visit last April 4-11 (read article here: https://tinyurl.com/GAiN-Visits-Myanmar), was not only successful but had also opened doors for Global Aid Network. The travelling team from the Philippines consisting of doctors, a nurse, a dentist, and teachers carried the heart for the people there affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that happened March 28, 2025. Unbeknownst to the group, the experience and knowledge gained from the short-term trip would not only benefit the Myanmar people, but also empower and educate future teams who will follow and aid the Myanmar communities in need.

Because of military government restrictions and the ongoing civil war, the team was required to be ever more resourceful of what they had and what they could do. Partnering with the locals brought the team very near and deep into the country’s most affected areas. The team visited 6 different locations surrounding the epicenter of the earthquake, and assisted in trauma debriefing sessions and classes, play therapy for the kids, as well as lectures on Disaster Preparedness, First Aid, & Health. Food and nonfood relief packages were also distributed by our local partners to the communities we visited.

At this time there still remains deep hopelessness and helplessness among the Myanmar people. With decades of junta government and now the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, people feel lost. In the epicenter and even in areas surrounding, victims are still sleeping on the streets after losing their houses and livelihood. A lot of bridges and buildings have collapsed, and loved ones are still buried under debris. Their economy is collapsing, resulting in inflation. There is unrest due to the still ongoing civil war. Aid from the outside is, now more than ever, necessary but tragically scares due to government restrictions that make securing entry complicated and challenging.

GAiN Philippines has had the privilege to learn from and assist those aiding the suffering in Myanmar. We intend to continue reaching out to and doing more for communities in need. Other countries who seem worlds away with different kinds of people, culture, language, and norm–but very evidently suffering–are no different when it comes to the relief, hope, and dignity that they deserve.

Sincerely,

Global Aid Network- GAIN Philippines

On March 28, the 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar. According to our local news, the death toll rose to 3,471, with 4,671 injured, and another 214 still missing as of April 6. Emergency response teams from all over the world are coming to help.

Right now, Rod Santos, head of GAiN PH, is visiting affected areas. Along with local groups, they do relief efforts. He is also helping other organizations by doing need assessments on site. Hundreds are living on the streets, a lot of them wounded not receiving medical help. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and government workers are also affected.

With what we, as individuals, are able to do when others are in dire need of help, we must do our best. Beautiful hope for humanity comes from witnessing different people from all over being moved by compassion to aid others who are suffering. GAiN PH desires to encourage and uplift those who are in need and everyone who helps.

28/03/2025

Dear Medical Professionals,

“Since obtaining my medical license, I've felt an unshakeable burden to serve through a medical mission. The opportunity finally arose. I was invited to join Global Aid Network's Medical Mission in Antipolo and Montalban from February 10-21, 2025. (Read article here: gainph.org/medical-mission-2025) What initially seemed like a routine two-week commitment as a doctor transformed into an enlightening experience that profoundly impacted me. My eyes were opened, my perspective shifted, and my heart was moved.

For many days, I had prayed for an opportunity like this. One of the most resounding impressions in my heart was about steadfast love. This love is faithful, caring, righteous, and just – a beacon of hope. I witnessed firsthand the manifestation of this steadfast love through our service to the poor and needy. As we tended to their physical needs, I realized that this is the higher calling we are meant to fulfill. ” – Dr. Patricia Gomez (volunteer physician)

“As trainees and professionals at any level and setting, we work with much routine and disappointment in being unable to reach people’s deepest needs, despite our years of commitment to the study and practice of medicine. Yet, during this mission, we found that leaning on one another allowed us to go beyond physical care and offer hope as well.

I hope to encourage others to see themselves as part of this journey.

What easily leads to frustration become moments of gratitude, reminding us that service is never about us. Every patient seen, every prayer shared, and every team member’s effort points to a greater message. This mission reaffirmed that our skills are not just tools for physical care but opportunities to spread hope.” – Dr. Kathrine Fernandez (volunteer physician)

“On our fourth clinic day, I met an elderly patient with a complaint that could only be addressed surgically. Feeling disappointed that I could only discuss the cause and management of her case, she listened intently and eventually disclosed her personal concerns and worries. I was taken aback as tears began to fall from her eyes, and I felt compelled to pray for her. So we prayed and I can sense that somehow her burdens were lifted. Then after going through all the steps and receiving her medications from the pharmacy, she came back to me saying, “Doc, Salamat, ‘di kita malilimutan.”. As I smiled, greeted, and waved her goodbye, a thought popped into my mind: ‘Wow, a simple act could definitely bring an impact to my patient.’. “ – Dr. Michelle Caamic (volunteer physician)

We invite you to join us. In reaching out to those in crisis and need, one very often receives much for themselves in return. Global Aid Network’s mission is to relieve suffering, reveal hope, and restore life. You can help us achieve that.
