Only by resisting the climate of fear and violence that relegates marginalized communities further to the margins can humanitarian work become truly effective and meaningful. Effective Altruism Blue (EA Blue) mourns the lives lost in the attack in Toboso, Negros Occidental. We call for truth, accountability, and justice.

🇵🇭 EA Philippines was founded 7 years ago today!

We are in awe of the thoughtfulness, ambition, and deep care we have seen and continue to see in our community, from its inception until now.

A big thanks to everybody who makes up our community, for directing your energy and resources towards the most pressing problems of our time, and for supporting others to do the same. We are so excited to see what's in store for you as you continue to strive towards impact!💡💜

Happy 7th Anniversary, EA Philippines! 🥳

Last October 14, the EA Blue Talab Talk “Beyond Good Intentions: Maximizing Impact through Effective Altruism” brought together students, thinkers, and changemakers to reflect on what it truly means to help others, not just with compassion, but with reason and evidence. 💡 💙

From tackling health inequities and AI-driven job loss to rethinking privilege and compassion through the lens of effective altruism, participants engaged in an honest and hopeful dialogue about doing good, better. 🌍🫂

Thank you to everyone who joined us in exploring how our empathy can become impact, and how accompaniment can move beyond intention into transformation. ✨

Beyond Good Intentions: Maximizing Impact through Effective Altruism 💡 💙

📅 October 14, 2:00–4:00 PM
📍 SOM 211

How can we truly help others? Not just with good intentions, but in ways that measurably improve lives?

Join us for an honest, thought-provoking conversation on Effective Altruism (EA), a global movement that combines reason, evidence, and compassion to maximize positive impact. Together, we’ll connect EA to our own context: the call to walk with the excluded, not just for them. 🫂 🌏

✨ What to Expect:
- A clear, accessible introduction to EA’s core ideas: choosing causes wisely, thinking long-term, and being globally compassionate.

- Reflections on pressing issues like health inequities, AI-driven job loss, animal suffering, and education gaps.

- A dialogue on EA’s blind spots (privilege, overreliance on data) and how Catholic Social Teaching & Jesuit values of accompaniment can deepen our response.

- Stories, surprising insights, and moments to reflect on how our choices—whether in giving, advocacy, or careers—can align with doing the most good.

Come ready to listen, reflect, and rethink how we can make our compassion truly count. 🫶

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, a wildlife conservationist who transformed the way the world understands and values animals.

Her compassion didn’t just stop with wildlife. Jane Goodall’s message has always been clear: that our shared responsibility extends to all living beings, including the billions of farmed animals who are too often forgotten.

We honor Jane Goodall’s vision of a kinder world where every animal, wild or farmed, is treated with dignity and compassion.

Thank you, Jane, for lighting the way. 🌍🤍
