While truth tables are a convenient way to show that two statements are logically equivalent, working with them tends to be tedious and, for some, more computational than elegant. In this post, we prove two well-known logical equivalences using only their basic definitions, without any recourse to truth tables.

Given a matrix, one can build an equation special to that matrix known as its characteristic equation. One interesting fact is that plugging a matrix itself into its own characteristic equation satisfies it!
