On April 20, 2026, the SGP-7 Aurora Province Landscape successfully conducted its five-day project visit kick-off at the ASCOT hostel. The project is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) GEF, through the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the Foundation for the Philippine Environment (FPE), and Tanggol Kalikasan Inc. as the landscape hub, in collaboration with the Aurora State College of Technology – Institute of Environmental Governance (ASCOT-IEG).
The project visit includes participants from the National Steering Committee, Project Technical Review Committee, PMU, UNDP, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), FPE, Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), FASPS, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP–FAPIRO), and the Office of the Undersecretary for Policy, Planning, and International Affairs (OUPPIA).
Key messages from partner representatives further inspired everyone as Mr. Errol M. Gatumbato, National Coordinator of PMU, emphasized the importance of consistent project monitoring to ensure that project outcomes remain aligned with community needs and environmental goals. In addition, Atty. Marina Rabe-Manuel, managing lawyer of TK concluded the messages hoping for a productive and enlightening journey with everyone.
Following these messages, a presentation on the Aurora Landscape was conducted by Ms. Elena Derige, the Project Officer of Tanggol Kalikasan, providing everyone with a deeper understanding of the project’s progress and challenges faced by grantees, as well as the coaches. The strengthened partnership between Tanggol Kalikasan and ASCOT-IEG was also highlighted by Doc RB J Gallego, the IEG Director of ASCOT, showcasing their collaborative efforts in advancing community-based environmental governance.
The activity concluded with an open forum, where they actively engaged in discussions, shared insights, and raised key questions to further understand the state of monitoring, progress, and challenges faced by members who continuously aims for the betterment of the Aurora Landscape.
