Dr. Jonathan Jesus Navea y Nazareno, also known as Jake Navea and Jonathan Navea (born 11 June 1955) is a Filipino journalist, civic leader, and consumers welfare advocate who initiated the celebration of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in the Philippines. In 1980, he took the first step that there must be Annual Huwarang ina at Ama Awards, also known before as the Outstanding Filipino Mothers and Fathers (Gintong Ama at Ina Awards). He was the one who lobbied for Presidential Proclamation No. 266 signed by the late President Corazon Aquino which declared Mother's Day every second Sunday of May and Father's Day every third Sunday of June as national events. In 1983, Navea was even summoned in the Senate to rationalize and defend the celebration of Mother’s Day every second Sunday of May, contradicting the Presidential Proclamation signed by the late President Manuel L. Quezon declaring Mother’s Day every first Monday of December. However, with the evidential support of the media and major sectors which Dr. Jake Navea presented won the favorable nod of the Senate. Navea encouraged the world to respect and give tribute to exceptional parents. Golden Mother and Father Awards are given to honor Outstanding Mothers and Fathers from around the world. Previous recipients of the award were retired Supreme Court Associate Justice Consuelo Ynares Santiago and former Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. On 10 May 2009, the mother of former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada, Maria Ejercito was given the “Huwarang Ina Posthumous Award.” On 13 May 2012, the mother of the broadcasters Tulfo Brothers, Caridad Tulfo, received the 32nd “Huwarang Ina Award.”
During the presidency of Fidel V. Ramos, Navea lobbied for the celebration for Grandparents and Senior Citizens day every second Sunday of September and also the Family Week Celebration every last week of September within the Philippines and among other Asian Countries. Former President Ramos announced it as one of the National Events by the virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 60. Navea also pursued the celebration of Consumers Month Celebration in the Philippines. In 1981, he was able to establish the prestigious Consumer Choice Awards, Consumers Quality Awards, Seal of Excellence Award, and the Global Brand Award. These awards are given among some of the Asia Pacific countries including Philippines, Thailand, Hongkong, China, Singapore, and Malaysia. He expanded his endevours to outstanding achievers in different fields such as business, arts and entertainment, sports, public service, education, humanitarian service, and professional careers. He was able to inspire other people through giving awards like Asian Achiever Award, Dangal ng Bayan Award (also known as Parangal ng Bayan Award or the People's Choice Award), Global Achiever Award, Who's Who in the Philippines, and Gawad Musika Awards. Navea is the editor of Variety Newsmagazine; Pacific Chronicle, a newspaper in Saipan, Guam and USA published weekly; and Consumers Journal.
