Today, we share the 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 (𝗔𝗬𝗜𝗣𝗡) for the 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 & 𝗠𝗲𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴, held on 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟮𝟳–𝟮𝟴, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, at the 𝗟𝗼𝗺𝘂𝗻𝘂 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 in 𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗵, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮.

The gathering brought together 𝟭𝟱 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 from 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗮𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗵, 𝗠𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗿, 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗮, 𝗡𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗹, 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 to exchange experiences, deepen their understanding of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and advocacy, and strengthen regional coordination through the 𝗔𝗬𝗜𝗣𝗡–𝗔𝗜𝗬𝗣 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺. The discussions also explored grassroots campaigns and collective actions under the 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 (𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗛) campaign.

📢Protect the rainforests in West Papua, protect the Indigenous Peoples who call it home!

More than 125.000 people have been internally displaced and 2.5 million hectares of land have been cleared in Indonesian-occupied West Papua on the island of New Guinea.

Indigenous Peoples are losing their homes, forests and livelihoods.

The Papua Solidarity Network has made an appeal to the UN to protect Indigenous Peoples rights and stop the destruction of the rainforests.

✊We stand with the people of West Papua and support their call for an independent UN investigation, accountability for human rights violations and and respect for Indigenous Peoples' right to self-determination.

Protecting the rainforests mean protecting the people who depend on it.

More moments from the South Asia and Mekong Indigenous Youth Leaders and Guardianship Gathering!

During the Solidarity Night, IP youth shared songs, dances, and traditions from their communities bringing together different cultures and experiences across the region.

On the second day, there was a discussion on the ongoing situations affecting Indigenous Peoples across South Asia and the Mekong sub-region, including how regional agreements and developments related to trade, economic cooperation, and political relations are affecting Indigenous lands, communities, livelihoods, and rights.

The participants also joined workshops focused on identifying the needs and priorities of Indigenous youth and local communities. The discussions explored how youth organizations can be strengthened and how the regional Indigenous youth network can work more collectively in responding to the challenges faced by Indigenous Peoples across Asia.

The gathering closed with participants writing and sharing their commitments—actions they will bring back to their organizations and communities. These commitments reflect the continuing work of Indigenous youth to strengthen their organizations, defend their rights, protect their lands and cultures, and build stronger solidarity across the region.
