𝙄’𝙢 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 𝙖 𝙩𝙬𝙤-𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙖𝙩 𝘼𝙇𝙏𝙀𝙍𝙋𝙇𝘼𝙉. 𝘽𝙚𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙚𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢, 𝙄 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙢𝙮 𝙩𝙖𝙨𝙠𝙨.

My main focus was research on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the Philippines. NbS are gaining significant traction, especially through their integration into the Philippine Development Plan. ALTERPLAN is at the forefront of this approach, applying NbS in disaster risk reduction resettlement projects—such as in Albay, where communities living too close to an active volcano are being relocated to eco-villages.

These projects go beyond design: residents are actively trained in NbS methods like constructed wetlands, contributing to long-term capacity building and community resilience. I had the chance to visit the Laudato Si’ eco-village, speak with residents, and participate in local ceremonies and meetings—experiences that provided invaluable on-the-ground perspective.

In addition, my research supported the ALTERPLAN team with policy analysis on updates in local planning processes and the synchronized budgeting cycle.

As an Urban and Regional Planning student at the Technical University of Berlin in Germany, these insights taught me a great deal about planning cultures and processes in a context very different from my own, while also enriching theoretical knowledge with practical experience through discussions with the ALTERPLAN team.

Members of the Movement Building Team and Our Renewable Energy Team participated in a meeting led by PHILSSA to explore potential collaboration efforts, together with its consortium partners: Community Organizers Multiversity - CO Multiversity (COM), Urban Poor Associates, John J. Carroll Institute on Church and Social Issues, and the Foundation for the Development of the Urban Poor. The meeting brought together around five community organizing groups under the PHILSSA consortium. It strengthened relationships with key partners and reinforced the importance of combining advocacy with concrete, solution-based approaches.

We are thrilled to be today for a vital discussion on using 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆-𝒃𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 (𝑵𝑩𝑺) to strengthen the resilience of resettled households against climate risks.
