The challenge arises with the 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁. When human activities release higher concentrations of gases like CO₂ and methane into the air, that 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿—trapping excess heat and driving up surface temperatures. Plus, synthetic compounds like chlorofluorocarbons add to the blanket acting as a "𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸," making the warming effect even stronger as temperatures rise.

Through 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗥𝗨𝗥𝗕𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗘, we break down these scientific concepts so our partner communities can better understand climate trends and plan for a resilient future.

Is the greenhouse effect naturally bad for Earth?

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹!! In fact, we need it to survive! The natural greenhouse effect acts like a 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁, keeping Earth at a livable temperature.

Weather changes naturally from one year to the next, which is why scientists don't judge climate trends by a single heatwave. Instead, they track global surface temperatures averaged across several decades—comparing them against a historical baseline from 1850 to 1900.

By measuring the pattern over 20 to 30 years, short-term weather fluctuations fade away, leaving a clear picture of how our planet is warming.
