Last April 29–30, 2026, 42 participants gathered in Sagay City, Negros Occidental for the 2-day Zero Hunger: Magpakain Training, bringing together Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), DepEd representatives, parent volunteers, and the LGU-led Central Kitchen team in a shared commitment to nourish children and strengthen school-based feeding efforts.

Over the years, Sagay City’s LGU-led Central Kitchen initiative has demonstrated how local governments and communities can work together to make nutritious meals more accessible to children. Through trainings like these, more local implementers are being equipped to sustain feeding programs rooted in care, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

Last April 18–19, 2026, 16 participants from 6 communities gathered for Module 3 of the Laudato Si’ Community Development Certificate Course, organized by Gawad Kalinga–Ateneo and the Office of Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI).

Across two days of learning—on formation and accompaniment, as well as networks, partnerships, and sustainability—participants deepened both their practice and their purpose.

Empowering communities starts with equipping those at the frontlines.

Last April 7–8, 2026, the GK-Ateneo team trained over 60 Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from all 30 barangays of Jamindan, Capiz through the Yamang Kalusugan (YK) Facilitators’ Training.

This effort was made possible through the partnership of GK-Ateneo, LGU Jamindan, Gawad Kalinga Western Visayas, and the GK Capiz Provincial Management Team.

[TRANSPARENCY REPORT AND CALL FOR DONATIONS]
Drew, a 3rd year Financial Aid Scholar of BS Psychology and a dedicated Gawad Kalinga Ateneo Volunteer, sustained a severe arm injury and was rushed to The Medical City Emergency Room on April 11.

As of April 14 at 1:45PM, Drew & his family has received donations upward of Php 125,000 to fund his upcoming surgery. We would like to extend our utmost gratitude to everyone who has liked and shared this post, as well as to professors of Psychology department who have generously donated and spread the word.

Regarding Drew's condition, we have retrieved the X-ray results from The Medical City and it reveals complete fractures of the radial and ulna bones. Drew has been staying at home since Saturday night while logistics of his surgery date is currently being being handled. TMC has given an estimated amount of Php 250,000 for the cost of surgery and recovery, however, Drew & his family are trying to find other options for him to undergo surgery.

Drew & his family have also been informed regarding the existing available Ateneo Accident Insurance as well as options in terms of reaching out to various Ateneo Offices. In regards to the current plan of action, Drew & his family are still figuring out the most logistically feasible, cheapest, and earliest surgery date, exploring options from hospitals such as Taytay Doctors, The Medical City, St. Lukes, East Ave., and Philippine Orthopedic Center. They are in talks with various doctors as of today and will hopefully figure out the most accessible and earliest option within the day.

[CALL FOR DONATIONS]
Drew, a 3rd year Financial Aid Scholar of BS Psychology and a dedicated Gawad Kalinga Ateneo Volunteer, sustained a severe arm injury and was rushed to The Medical City Emergency Room on April 11.
While he is currently stabilized, he is in need of surgery as soon as possible and is taking consistent medication to prevent further complications. The surgery is of highest priority as the longer without it, the higher the likelihood the blood vessel in the arm cannot fully recover and permanently cut off circulation from the rest of his arm.
Drew is now in need of assistance, especially as this takes a major hit on their finances and Drew’s ability to attend and perform in his classes and other responsibilities.
