GKAV Upholds Pride as a Protest: Pass the SOGIE Equality Bill! No Space For Meloto! No Pride in Landgrabbing & Redtagging!

A liberating greeting this Pride Month from Gawad Kalinga Ateneo Volunteers. This June, the organization joins the LGBTQIA+ community’s celebration of and continued call for equality, safety, and dignity, both in society and in law. Beyond the colorful and celebratory events that recognize and uplift the diverse identities of Filipinos, Pride Month is also an important time for solidarity and conversation on the q***r struggle for liberation and civil and human rights. Gawad Kalinga Ateneo Volunteers (GKAV) recognizes the intersecting relationship between the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community’s plight and our advocacy to eradicate poverty, uphold human dignity, and realize empowered communities.

GKAV stands in solidarity with Pride and the LGBTQIA+ community. Together, we look forward to a more inclusive future for the nation.

Maraming Salamat Bayani!! 🫂

We are happy to share that Drew has been recovering well from his surgery last April 21 and we would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who had been involved in Drew's surgery journey, most particularly the Dana Foundation from St. Luke's for covering all of Drew's surgery expenses and all those who donated, shared, and reached out!

Thank you also to Dr. Andrew Taberrah, Dr. Ervin Valencia, and to all the doctors and nurses that took great care of Drew throughout the process. The donations were able to amass Php 140k that Drew will be using for physical therapy and other medical expenses.

Once again, thank you Bayani! 💙✨ 🙏

Strengthening the spirit of bayanihan in Siargao! 🇵🇭✨

Last April 27–29, 2026, leaders, volunteers, representatives from Local Government Units (LGUs), and partner organizations from General Luna, Del Carmen, and San Benito gathered for the Bayani Challenge 2026 Skills Training and Partnership Forum held at Cabuntog Municipal Hall in General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte.

Facilitated by Gawad Kalinga-Ateneo and Gawad Kalinga Institute (GKI), the training prepared communities for the upcoming Bayani Challenge 2026 through sessions on teamwork, community mobilization, and collaborative action toward resilient and empowered communities.

Last April 29–30, 2026, 42 participants gathered in Sagay City, Negros Occidental for the 2-day Zero Hunger: Magpakain Training, bringing together Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), DepEd representatives, parent volunteers, and the LGU-led Central Kitchen team in a shared commitment to nourish children and strengthen school-based feeding efforts.

Over the years, Sagay City’s LGU-led Central Kitchen initiative has demonstrated how local governments and communities can work together to make nutritious meals more accessible to children. Through trainings like these, more local implementers are being equipped to sustain feeding programs rooted in care, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

Built on learning, strengthened by connection. 🌱

Last April 18–19, 2026, 16 participants from 6 communities gathered for Module 3 of the Laudato Si’ Community Development Certificate Course, organized by Gawad Kalinga–Ateneo and the Office of Social Concern and Involvement (OSCI).

Across two days of learning—on formation and accompaniment, as well as networks, partnerships, and sustainability—participants deepened both their practice and their purpose.
