WriterSkill stands firm in solidarity, calling for transformative action and change, rooted in accountability and justice.
The rot of recent ghost projects, pork barrel scams, and continuous delays on vital infrastructure, is a narrative of corruption. It has an actor, a beginning, a reckoning, but no end, only looping back to the same benefactor and beneficiaries when the headlines have passed. However, we must refuse to stay silent. We must stand united against this plague that undermines our democracy and betrays the people.
In a deeply divided democracy, we are being asked to be content with only talks of serving the people, while the truth is imprisoned. Threats are penned against whistleblowers, and restrictions on asset declarations blot out the pursuit of accountability. But it is not just truth and money that escape us, but the dignity and fullness of life, stolen from the very hands and mouths of the Filipino people.
Evil begets only more evil, trickling down from bloated budgets to healthcare that kills you with the bill before the treatment, underfunded classrooms for our children, dreams and stories that will never get to be written, and a country that is forced into stagnation.
The writer and audience of justice cannot be allowed to be the very same actors. Some say that the system will never change. But this is precisely the narrative we must reject, for it is a master narrative designed not only to quell, but forces us to be content with scraps of human dignity. Scraps of dignity that they allow us to have, and scraps even the corrupt weave to suit their narratives. It evades the demand for genuine public service, in favor and asserts the citizen as only a tool for greed.
We must have the courage to reject corruption from the roots to the low-hanging fruits. We must demand more from our candidates, our elections, and most of all: Our choices. We must not let them poison our hope. We must refuse to accept that our only choices are lesser evils, and seek to co-create history rather than be subject to a self-serving rewrite.
We call upon all citizens to call for systemic change, to cast out this diseased degradation of morality. Be informed, verify information and keep pursuing the truth. We affirm our commitment to transparency via the Freedom of Information (FOI) expansions, accountability through reform, and public service free from dynastic grip.
Let us all work towards a future built on integrity, justice, and peace.
