March 10, 2026 | From Street Conversations to Advocacy Action
The Kariton Coalition and the Ateneo Tagpuan Center for Dialogue, Research and Collaboration convened with coalition partners to present the results of the Street Conversations Project—amplifying the lived realities and urgent voices of persons in street dwelling situations.
The Street Conversations Project employed a dialogical approach in the conduct of on-street and tarima (hubs) conversations. With Kariton Coalition member organizations, the research team held a month-long street immersion in various tarimas and held hub and inter-hub dialogues at various feeding and support centers in Manila and Quezon City. The research team is composed of Dr. Melissa Navarra (Lead Investigator) and Dr. Jowel Canuday, Vince Eugenio, Soti Sabarre, Sonny Santos, Mel Daguio, Gino Trinidad and Caloy Reyes.
The dialogue moved beyond reflection to collective action, identifying priority advocacy measures that will push for local and national policy and program reforms, strengthen protection mechanisms, and advance rights-based, durable solutions for persons experiencing street dwelling.
AJ KALINGA, Sambat, Kaagapay ng Sandigan ng Maralitang nasa Kalsada, Kalye Pag-asa, Dalisay Community Pantry, UPLIFT, Kariton Empowerment Center and QC PESO gave their insights in relation to the research results and identified important next steps for the coalition.
Grounded in the experiences shared from the streets, the coalition reaffirmed its commitment to transforming voices into policy change—ensuring that the rights, dignity, and welfare of persons in street dwelling situations are recognized, protected, and upheld.
