As a member organization of the PHILCAN, the Health Food Environment Coalition and the Sin Tax Coalition, KMI continues its advocacy work with Action for Economic Reform (AER). On Mar 11, KMI Founding President Dr Maria Asuncion "Mianne" participated in a RTD on benchmarking of taxes on sugar sweetened beverages. This will surely not only impact on the rights-based care for children in their First 1000 Days but also their future health as adolescents, adults and even their offspring. Childhood overweight and obesity are rapidly rising, so with earlier deaths and disabilities from non communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, strokes, heart attacks and cancers. Engaging LGU Kagawads/Councilors, youth and labor sector representatives, child rights advocates, co-members of PHILCAN and the Healthy Food Environment Coalition made for a very fruitful afternoon in a safe space ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฅ
