KMI Drs Joanne Datangel-Gallardo and Mianne Silvestre, Adjunct Faculty of the Diploma Course on Tropical Medicine and Global Health of Nagasaki University and the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, lectured during MCH Week and conducted small group facilitation sessions on E/iNC and breastfeeding.

An additional lecture on Acute Malnutrition and Nutrition in Emergencies was assigned to KMI this year.

A decade ago, in 2016, DOH DPO 2016-1714 formalized the "Creation of the National Technical Advisory Panel and the National Technical Working Group (TWG) on Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH). Many members of the National Advisory Panel and the National TWG have since moved on.

Reconvened in May of last year, KMI President Dr Maria Asuncion A. Silvestre continues on as a member of the National TWG on MNH and on April 9, Araw ng Kagitingan, provided technical input on the draft Newborn Health Strategic Plan for 2026-2030.

And just like that, Stakeholder Consultation 3 (March 25-27, 2026) for the integration of the separate SAM and MAM Manuals of Operation is done. The consultation was carried out as a tabletop exercise with OCE's to test the usability of the draft PIMAM MOP. KMI undertook this daunting task in partnership with NCP, as commissioned by UNiCEF to assist the Philippines DOH. Thank you to our DOH colleagues, Emmalyn T and Dr Kath for your focused participation and positive feedback over these 3 days! Thank you, QC City government for providing us a venue for this crucial step! We appreciate your climate smart facility and regulations! As a member organization of the PHILCAN, the Health Food Environment Coalition and the Sin Tax Coalition, KMI continues its advocacy work with Action for Economic Reform (AER). On Mar 11, KMI Founding President Dr Maria Asuncion "Mianne" participated in a RTD on benchmarking of taxes on sugar sweetened beverages. This will surely not only impact on the rights-based care for children in their First 1000 Days but also their future health as adolescents, adults and even their offspring. Childhood overweight and obesity are rapidly rising, so with earlier deaths and disabilities from non communicable diseases like diabetes, hypertension, strokes, heart attacks and cancers. Engaging LGU Kagawads/Councilors, youth and labor sector representatives, child rights advocates, co-members of PHILCAN and the Healthy Food Environment Coalition made for a very fruitful afternoon in a safe space 🙏🔥💞🔥

In June of 2024, KMI Consultants Dr Ann Corsino, Antiqueno and Joan Briones completed the 3 year AAP-ICATCH Project Unang Yakap - EINC and Breastfeeding Support in the municipality of Dulag, Leyte with vastly improved breastfeeding and neonatal mortality rates.

KMI continues to support the development of the children of Dulag, this time with the delivery of donated books from Ms Zarina Ignacio Fortes! Marami pong Salamat
