TO ALL MY DEAR FELLOW SULTANITES! ALLOW ME TO SHARE WITH YOU SOME GOOD NEWS!

Today, I received a letter from Toastmasters International, once again congratulating Sultan Toastmasters Club for achieving the President’s Distinguished Club designation for the 2021-2022 program year. Also, a President’s Distinguished Club ribbon (to be displayed on our club banner) was enclosed in the package.

As your Immediate Past President, I would like to thank and congratulate all of you again for your priceless role in our achievement not only the President’s Distinguished Club title but in our being included among the Top 10 TM Clubs in District 75 for Educational Goals – a record first in the history of our club!

You will recall that nine (9) of our members successfully completed ten (10) pathways.

1. PRES. ALICIA KALAW-FERNANDEZ -- 2 pathways, namely: Motivational & Engaging Humor Pathways, August 2021 and May 2022
2. PP LOLIT MICU BRAVO - Dynamic Leadership Pathway, February 2022
3. TM MA THERESA BRAVO CHUA - Dynamic Leadership Pathway, March 2022
4. PP RONALDO CANSECO - Dynamic Leadership, March 2022
5. IPP JESSE EDURIA - Innovative Planning Pathway, June 2022
6. DTM SONIA ROCO - Engaging Humor Pathway, June 2022 (2nd pathway)
7. TM MAXINE LEANNA DY SANTOS - Innovative Planning, June 2022
8. TM ROY CANSECO - Visionary Communication Pathway, June 2022, and
9. PP ERLINDA NAVARRO - Dynamic Leadership Pathway, June 2022 .

In addition, many other members went up several notches higher, finishing their levels from the 1st to the 4th.

Our combined efforts were certainly the key to our being included in the said Top 10 TM Clubs for Educational Goals in District 75. I cannot thank all of you enough for your enthusiasm, participation and contribution to our club’s success.

Let’s all keep up the great work while thanking God for this blessing. May we continue to give glory to God through the gift of public speaking, and through the gift of communication in general.

Congratulations to our mother club Tamaraw Toastmasters Club for its 70th year!

28/07/2022

Sharing my valedictory speech I delivered on July 25, 2022 during the turnover ceremony of the presidency of Sultan Toastmasters Club for the program year 2022-2023 .
Max DePree, an American businessman and writer, once said and I quote, “The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a SERVANT.”
On July 25, 2022, my term as the President of Sultan Toastmasters Club for Program year 2021-2022 officially ended. We had the installation of officers and the induction of new officers for program year 2022-2023, a hybrid event held at the Rotary Center in Quezon City. Four members from Australia, Hongkong, Singapore and Philippines joined virtually, a new beginning for the new club officers and the end of my term as president.
I would proudly say, “Together We Did IT!” Our club met the educational goals set by Toastmasters International. We had 10 graduates of Pathways, registered new members, as well as renewed memberships of former Sultanites and members of other clubs. Because of these accomplishments, WE RANKED NO. 5 IN THE TOP 10 EDUCATIONAL GOALS over the 300 CLUBS in our district, District 75. And, triumphantly, we continue to be a PRESIDENT’S DISTINGUISHED CLUB for 7 consecutive years!
I ended my term with a lot of gratitude in my heart. I give full credit of our club’s success to all my beloved Sultanites for the cooperation and support they generously extended to me. Special thanks go to our club secretary, Toastmaster Thess Bravo-Chua, for all the support she gave me the whole year. And, to our seasoned members (our elders) who guided and mentored me along the way: Past President Jesse Eduria, Distinguished Toastmaster Sonia Roco, Distinguished Toastmaster Mike Jacinto, Past President Linda Navarro, and Past President Cesar Jacinto. Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyong lahat!
As I always said in our Sultan TMC meetings, “TOGETHER WE CAN, WALANG MAIIWAN!”
For our success, to GOD BE ALL THE GLORY!

SULTAN TOASTMASTERS CLUB

DISTINGUISHED PRESIDENT'S CLUB AWARDEE for Program Year 2021-2022

Sharing with everyone my Farewell Speech as President of the Club for this program year:

About a year ago, I was elected to lead our club’s journey through the Program Year 2021-2022. Since I was then a very new member of Sultan Toastmasters Club, I silently hesitated to accept the challenge. But since I was assured that I could count on everyone’s support during the journey, I eventually rose to the challenge.

The management guru, John C. Maxwell, once said that “a leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” From the moment I said yes to the challenge, therefore, I set out to do the first task of a leader, which is to KNOW the way. For, indeed, one cannot GO the way -- much less SHOW others the way -- if one does not KNOW the way in the first place.

For this purpose, I spent several days reading the Toastmasters International’s website, specifically, its sections on the so-called “Pathways.” I familiarized myself with how the Toastmasters “basecamp” operates, I studied the goals and objectives of each Pathway, and tried my best to understand what Toastmasters International advises us to do in order to reach those goals and objectives. Once I knew where each of us as individual members, and where all of us as a club, were supposed to go, I then proceeded to the second task of leadership, which is to GO the way.

I chose my own Pathways, Motivational and Engaging Humor, and resolved to follow the guidelines and directions set by TM International for my chosen Pathways. By doing so, I became confident enough to move on to the third task of leadership, which is to SHOW the way for the other members of the team.

The question that I have been asking myself as I draw nearer to the end of my term as Club President is: Have I done justice to the challenge that I accepted a year ago? Did I somehow succeed in leading the club in its journey through the Program Year 2021-2022?

As I look back on our yearlong journey, I feel happy to realize that we were able to achieve our goals which we can all rightly be proud of.

Let us all together take a look at the attached report dated June 25, 2022 given by Toastmasters International. The figures will still be adjusted to reflect accomplishments from June 26 -30.

1st, we were able to attain our education goals. In fact, we were able to achieve more than what was required and more than what is in the report. We were required to achieve a few targets, but we succeeded in achieving much more.

2nd, we achieved our targets long before the deadline. It was because we started working towards our goals early. Hence, we were able to reach our targets early as well. We did not have to rush at the last minute in order to reach our targets.

3rd, we were able to achieve those preceding accomplishments because we all felt motivated, excited and inspired. We felt happy taking on different roles during our weekly meetings, delivering our speeches, listening to others’ speeches and giving them our constructive comments, feedback and evaluation.

The German intellectual Albert Schweitzer once said that success is NOT the key to happiness. Rather, it’s the other way around: happiness IS the key to success. If you love what you’re doing, you will be successful. I believe that is exactly what happened to us during our journey this past year: for some reason, we felt happy doing what we were doing. As a result, we succeeded quite well in what we were doing.

4th, one concrete indication that we enjoyed what we were doing was that we always began our meetings on time. It wasn’t that way at first. But eventually, we became very punctual. It’s both an indication of how disciplined we have become in terms of observing the time, as well as of how we enjoyed what we were doing. We did not come to our meetings with dragging feet, so to speak.

Finally, because we started on time, we also finished on time while achieving everything we set out to do for each meeting.

All these quote-unquote “accomplishments” would not have been possible without everyone’s support and encouragement, and most importantly, without the confidence and trust you placed in me as your Club President.

I shall therefore take my leave as outgoing Club President with an immense sense of gratitude to all of you for helping me lead the way for our club this past year.

Having said that, I hope you will indulge me with the opportunity to thank some people in particular for their support. First of all I wish to once again thank PP Mike Alunan for nominating me to be the President of Sultan, IPP Jesse Eduria for his assistance, our Club Secretary TM Thess Bravo Chua who was always ready to help and my partner in thinking of activities that will be good for the club, our VP-Ed Maxine Leanna Dy Santos, our Club Treasurer PP Linda, DTM Sonia Roco and PP Cesar Jacinto for extending to me the help I needed to ensure that our journey together as a club will remain as exciting, as challenging and as fulfilling as it possibly can.

Last, but not least, allow me to thank all of you, my dear fellow Sultanites, for the support you extended to fulfill my mission and plans for our beloved Sultan Toastmasters Club.

For our incoming President, TM Elma Regino, and her team of new officers, I wish them well in pursuing their new plans for each of the members and for the club itself as they take on the challenge of leading our club for the Program Year 2022-2023.

I would like to wish everyone, as well, the best of luck for the new Program Year!

To all us: CONGRATULATIONS! And, to all of you, MARAMING MARAMING SALAMAT SA INYONG LAHAT for all your support and love for our club. Let us give ourselves a warm round of applause for a job well done.

As I always say: In Sultan TMC, “TOGETHER WE CAN, WALANG MAIIWAN!"

SULTAN TOASTMASTERS CLUB MEETING
February 8, 2021
Theme: OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

What a beautiful theme! I am sure we all had, at one point in our lives, experienced procrastination. Or, do we still have the tendency to procrastinate up to now? I, myself, am guilty of that. Sometimes, I delay doing things to the last minute and when the deadline comes nearer, I cram. And then I regret. Why? Because I know I was not able to give my best. If I did my task early enough and without hurrying, I am sure I will come up with something really worthwhile.

Let’s take writing speeches as an example. If we will not be in a hurry writing our speeches, I am pretty sure we will come up with beautifully written speeches. Procrastination limits our time. In my case, I really don’t know what delays me or stops me sometimes. There are times I feel I need a push. Maybe I need something or someone who will give me an extra push.

DTM Sonia Roco was our Toastmaster of the Evening. I will share with you in this post the slides she made for us about Procrastination, Reasons Why We Procrastinate and How to Overcome Procrastination. Thank you so much, DTM Sonia. You have been an inspiration to all of us not only through your words but through the living example of your life. You are truly our LOD-I.

Likewise, I would like to thank our General Evaluator, DTM Ani Caja Reyes, for heading the team of the Evaluators: PP Michael Alunan, PP Pinky Alejandrino San Andres, TM Rachel Cabato, PP Cesar Jacinto, PP Linda Navarro, TM Ann Pantig, and Pres. Alice Kalaw. And, for giving us tips in evaluating and what evaluation does to us. As well we thank our segment hosts: TM Maxine Santos for Light Moments, TM Clarice Anne Medallo for Table Topics, Pres. Alice Kalaw for the Word of the Day, and TM Menchie Virrey-Borbon for the opening prayer. And, of course, our Prepared Speech Speakers: TM Roy Canseco, TM Maria Theresa Chua, TM Elma Santos Regino and PP Ronnie Canseco. Congratulations to all of you for going up a notch higher again in your respective pathways.

Congratulations, too, to the following: PP Atty. Lolit Micu Bravo, for finishing her Dynamic Leadership Pathway, DTM Sonia Roco for completing the Level 3 of her Engaging Humor and TM Maxine Santos for completing the Level 3 of her Innovative Planning, last Tuesday, February 1, 2022. We will soon be posting their Certificates of Completion.

Lastly, thanks to DTM Ian Along for dropping by and PP Zeny Zenaida G Mascarinas for joining us this evening. We missed our other members who were not able to join us.

We look forward to the delivery of speeches of the other members in the next coming weeks and the completion of their pathways, too.

Sa Sultan TMC, "Together We Can. Walang Maiiwan."
