When Mara Crystelle Orda joined the Night High School program at Siena College of San Jose back in 2007, she knew education was her path forward. Though her family later relocated to Tagaytay City, those four years as an ABC Foundation scholar made a lasting impact.

​Today, Mara is officially a Registered Criminologist (RCrim)!

​In a heartfelt message to our founder, Mr. Lewis Edwards, Mara shared her gratitude and her hope to pay it forward:

​"I pray to God that May He bless me with the ability to help others through education as well. It makes a huge impact on society when more people are getting educated."

This is Joyce, proud alumna of Siena College, Quezon City Class of 2011. With the support of and valuable lessons learned from ABC Foundation, Joyce used her academic foundation as a stepping stone to develop her leadership skills and serve her community. From Civil Engineering, she embraced new opportunities and carved her own path to success. She built a career from digital marketing in a UK-based EdTech company to corporate training, quality, and people development while continuously giving back through volunteer work for children and communities.

Currently residing in India, appreciating the view of the Himalayas, and having explored different cultures through local and international travel, she continues to pursue her passion for helping others by empowering people through communication, confidence-building, and soft skills development. Her story is a reminder that life does not always follow the plans we make, but with resilience, courage, and purpose, new roads can lead to equally meaningful destinations.

Honoring the Visionary Behind ABCf: Sir Lew Edwards Jr.

As we look back on 25 years of changing lives, our hearts are full of gratitude for the man who started it all. Today, we want to honor the vision and legacy of our founder, Sir Lew Edwards Jr.

Way back in 2001, Sir Lew looked at the challenges around him and saw an opportunity to make a real difference. He believed deeply that given the right support and a fair chance, anyone could achieve their dreams. With that big heart and clear vision, A Better Chance Foundtion was born.

From those first few preschoolers to the thriving community of night high schoolers, college scholars, Tondo communities, and CIW students we support today, every single milestone we reach is a reflection of the foundation he built. He didn’t just start an organization; he planted the seeds for thousands of brighter futures.

Sir Lew, thank you for your faith, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to giving others a better chance. We are so proud to carry your vision forward into the next 25 years and beyond!

This July, we are celebrating 25 years of helping open doors and change lives.

Our journey began all the way back in 2001. We started by supporting preschoolers, helping our youngest learners get a good start in life.

Over the years, we grew along with the needs of our community. We shifted our focus to night high school students and then to college scholars.

Recently, we expanded our reach even further. Through the Education on Wheels program of our partner-institution, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (Official), we now support students from our adopted community in Tondo, Manila in cooperation with Upskills+ Foundation Inc. We are also deeply proud to walk alongside persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) by offering online college courses.

Looking back, the fruits of this hard work are beautiful to see. Our alumni are now engineers, accountants, artists, and professionals making their mark both here and abroad. We always love hearing your updates, so please drop us a line and let us know how you are doing! At the same time, it brings us so much joy to watch our current scholars work hard every single day to achieve their dreams.

To help us mark this milestone, we recently held a commemorative logo contest. We are so proud to share the winning entry, beautifully designed by our very own alumnus, Charles Leonardo! These symbols capture our 25-year mission perfectly: Inspiring Hope, Sharing Love, and Shaping Futures. This beautiful logo will be featured on our special commemorative merchandise, coming very soon!

None of this would be possible without you. We want to say a deep, heartfelt thank you to every donor, volunteer, partner, and friend who has supported ABCf over the last 25 years. Your kindness keeps us going.

Plans are underway for a big celebration to mark this special milestone together. Stay tuned for more details soon!

The Education on Wheels (EOW) bus was in Tondo, Manila for another round of face-to-face sessions with our scholars.

To help them get the most out of their day, ABCf always makes sure to provide a good meal for everyone during our community visits. It’s just our way of keeping them energized and ready to learn.

We are happy to share the results of our recent shirt design contest! This July marks a special milestone as ABCf celebrates its 25th anniversary, and we wanted a design that truly captures the spirit of our journey.

A huge congratulations to our Grand Prize Winner:

In Memoriam: Steve Deppner

​We honor the life of Steve, a visionary architect whose faith-driven designs created sanctuaries of hope across the globe, most notably throughout Africa. Steve didn't just build churches; he built foundations for communities to gather, heal, and grow.

​Steve’s legacy of service was shared deeply with his wife, Annette Helbig, Founder and Chairman of the Springboard Foundation. For over 20 years, Annette and the Foundation have been unwavering partners and supporters of ABCf, touching countless lives through their dedicated philanthropy.

​Our hearts go out to Annette during this difficult time. We join her in mourning a man of immense talent and even greater kindness. Steve’s impact remains etched in the structures he designed and the many lives he inspired.
