How can better health financing and strategic purchasing help deliver better health for Filipinos?

Today, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) convenes UHC in Numbers Series No. 2: Financing Better Health: Local Evidence and Regional Lessons for Universal Health Care in Pasig City, bringing together policymakers, academics, health financing experts, and regional practitioners to discuss reforms that can strengthen the country’s health system.

The forum will examine how financing integration and provider payment reforms can improve value for money, strengthen financial protection, and promote high-quality care under Universal Health Care.

Discussions will cover integrated health financing, evidence-informed provider payment reforms, and opportunities for stronger regional collaboration in data, evidence, and innovation.

We advocate for:

1. Expanded Access to Hepatitis Vaccines
Ensure that Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B vaccines are accessible, affordable, and available to eligible Filipinos, including children 1 year old and above, subject to the national immunization schedule and appropriate medical guidance.

2. Universal Health Care Integration
Include comprehensive viral hepatitis prevention, vaccination, screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring within the implementation of Universal Health Care in the Philippines.

3. Stronger Community Immunization Programs
Support LGUs, schools, healthcare facilities, and community organizations in bringing hepatitis vaccination closer to every Filipino family, especially underserved and vulnerable communities.

4. Public Awareness and Education
Increase nationwide awareness about hepatitis transmission, prevention, vaccination, testing, and treatment. Knowledge saves lives. Prevention protects generations.

5. No Filipino Left Behind
Geographic location and financial capacity should never prevent a Filipino from accessing essential hepatitis prevention and care.
