The call to serve echoes across generations❤️

This week on SKL Season 3, Episode 18, we feature the inspiring story of Ignacio Soriano (JVP Batch 15), who answered the call to mission more than three decades ago as a volunteer teacher in a maritime school. That one year of service became a lifelong vocation of forming young minds, a mission he continues today as an educator at Ateneo de Manila University.

Thirty-two years later, the same spirit of generosity lives on in his daughter. Fresh from graduating from Ateneo de Manila University, Angel Soriano has chosen to follow the path of service and has begun her volunteer journey last week as a teacher at Loyola College of Culion, a Jesuit mission school in Culion, Palawan.

Truly a beautiful testament that when a life is offered in service, its impact reaches far beyond one generation. Some missions do not end; they inspire new hearts to say “yes.”

Adding to the joy of this episode is the hosting debut of Cres John Richmond Chua, who generously shares his gifts and voice in bringing stories of mission and service to our SKL community. Welcome to the SKL family, Cres!

Join us as we listen to a story of faith, vocation, and a legacy of love in action.

DEDICATION POST

Dios Mabalos, Ate Love Dorero!

If you were to ask the volunteers of Batches 41 to 46—and perhaps many other JVPs beyond them—what love looks like, they might simply answer with a name:

Love Dorero.

For six years, Ate Love faithfully served as Program Officer for Volunteer Service (POVS), journeying with many volunteers through discernment, formation, mission, struggles, and growth.

She has been a steady presence in moments of uncertainty, a source of encouragement in times of difficulty, and a witness to the countless ways God continues to work through service. Her care extended beyond programs and schedules; she accompanied volunteers with patience, compassion, and a heart deeply committed to the mission of JVP.

Many volunteers came and went, carrying different stories and dreams. Yet through the years, Ate Love remained a constant reminder that service is ultimately rooted in love—love that listens, guides, challenges, and believes in others.

Today, we honor and thank Ate Love for six years of generous service, unwavering dedication, and faithful accompaniment. Your impact lives on in every volunteer whose life you have touched and every community that has been served through your work.

Thank you, Ate Love, for showing us what it means to love through service.

A Night of Gratitude, Welcome, and New Beginnings

Last night, JVPFI President, Atty. Gettie Sandoval B6 graciously hosted a thanksgiving and welcome dinner for the National Office staff at Talisay Garden Café in Maginhawa, Quezon City, a joyful gathering that celebrated both her upcoming birthday and the many blessings of mission shared through the JVP community. The evening became an opportunity to honor God’s faithfulness through the people who generously continue to say “yes” to mission.

The evening became a special moment of gratitude for Love Dorero B21/22, our longest-serving Program Officer for Volunteer Service (POVS), as she concluded six years of dedicated service accompanying and caring for volunteers from Batches 41 to 46. Before her final day, she lovingly shepherded the Orientation and Skills Training Seminar of Batch 47, ensuring that a new generation of volunteers begins their mission journey prepared and inspired. We are deeply grateful for her dedication, compassion, and countless unseen acts of service that have shaped many volunteer journeys.

As one chapter closes, another begins. Noel O. Catipon B6/7, who has faithfully served as a formation staff member since Batch 43 and has generously shared his gifts as facilitator of the Board of Trustees’ strategic planning process, assumes the role of Officer-in-Charge for Volunteer Service. He now accompanies Batch 47 and leads the implementation of key initiatives emerging from JVP’s strategic plan, including the strengthening and updating of the Volunteer Service Program Manual. We are grateful for his willingness to continue nurturing the mission and guiding our volunteers forward.

We also warmly welcome Cres John Richmond Chua B44, who joined the National Office as Communications Officer on May 4, 2026. After serving as a guidance advocate and teacher in Lawaan, Eastern Samar, and extending his mission for two more years, he completed his service at Divine Child Academy in April 2026 and answered another call to serve, this time at the JVP Office. His journey shows us that mission does not end in one place; it simply takes new forms wherever one is needed most.

Together with Executive Director Blas Descallar B16, Atty. Gettie expressed heartfelt gratitude to Love Dorero for her 6 years of dedicated service and warmly welcomed Noel Catipon and Cres Chua as they embark on their new roles. Their stories reflect the enduring spirit of JVP: a community where every ending becomes a new beginning, every transition becomes an opportunity to serve, and every “yes” becomes a witness to faith in action.

As we continue our shared mission, we pray that God may bless these transitions with wisdom, courage, and joy, and that each servant-leader may continue to be a source of hope, accompaniment, and transformation for the communities they serve. 💙🙏🏻💗

The flame has been lit. Ten brave young souls stepped beyond the comfort of home, embracing many firsts and offering their lives in service with generous hearts. After a week-long Orientation and Skills Training, eight of the ten Batch 47 volunteers have now arrived in their respective mission areas, welcomed not as strangers, but as companions in mission.

From New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa, to the mountains of Imugan, Sta Fe in Nueva Vizcaya, to the valleys of Kalinga, and the halls of the CBCP compound in Intramuros, our volunteers were received with warmth, kindness, and hope.

John Michael C. Pazcoguin was welcomed by Fr. Bok Arandia, SJ, JVP-B32 at the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service; Isabel Bendoy Sai Sai by the loving Kalanguya community of Kalahan Academy; Kenneth David S. Ricalde by his new companions in Alinea Philippines in Kalinga after a long journey north; and Rico Ivan Bugal by Maximus Venture JVP-B14 and the Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) community, immediately immersing himself in the mission of serving the Church in need.

In every welcome, recognized that mission is never walked alone. It is built on hospitality, solidarity, generosity, and faith in action. As Batch 47 begins this journey of service, may their hearts continue to be shaped by the people they encounter and the communities they now call home.

Indeed, the mission has begun — and so has the quiet work of transforming lives, including their own.

IGNITE 🔥

The flame has been lit.

Inspired by the words of St. Ignatius of Loyola, “Go forth and set the world on fire,” these 10 volunteers now begin their journey of service and solidarity with the communities they are called to accompany.

Meet the JVPs of Batch 47 — striving to live fully, lead boldly, and serve deeply.

With hearts full of hope and courage, the Jesuit Volunteers Philippines Foundation joyfully sends forth the members of JVP Batch 47 into their respective mission areas, communities where faith becomes action, and service becomes a living expression of love.

Before crossing seas, mountains, and unfamiliar paths, our volunteers were first embraced by the warmth of the JVP community, a proof that no volunteer journeys alone.

Vincent Ventures and Noel Lim, missioned to Fatima College of Camiguin, were warmly welcomed by the CDO Local Community at Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan before proceeding to the island. We are deeply grateful to Irene Grace Alba Guitarte B8/9, Dickel Dagoc B34/35, Francis Gascon B38, and Lyza Beja Artazo B39 for representing the CDO LC and for accompanying our volunteers with generosity and solidarity.

In Zamboanga City, AJ Aljhun Cumaling was welcomed at the airport by the Local Executive Officer of the Zamboanga LC. After sharing a meal together, Ruth R Guerrero B12/13 accompanied AJ to the bus terminal as he continued his journey to Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay, a simple yet meaningful act of accompaniment that reflects the spirit of community and care that JVP lives out.

Meanwhile, in Culion, three JVPs - Cordeliz S. Sartagoda B45/46, Teresa Banta B41/42 and Sabrina Ongkiko B26 warmly welcomed Angel Soriano as she begins her mission at Loyola College of Culion, where she will teach Mathematics and help in the Campus Ministry, serving not only through education, but also through forming hearts and communities rooted in faith.

Today, Batch 47 volunteers are now in their mission areas, beginning to offer one year of their lives in service of those in the margins. In a world often marked by indifference and self-interest, these young volunteers courageously choose service, simplicity, solidarity, social justice, and spirituality. They remind us that faith is never meant to remain comfortable or hidden — it must move, accompany, heal, and serve.

As they begin this new chapter, may they continue to discover that in offering their lives for others, God also transforms and nourishes their own hearts. May their presence become a sign of hope, compassion, and God’s love in the communities they now call home.

Padayon, Batch 47. Your mission has begun. 💙
