In the Pilgrim City of Naga in Camarines Sur, the Peñafrancia Festival stands as a powerful expression of faith and devotion—bringing together millions of Bicolanos, pilgrims, and devotees from across the Philippines and beyond in one of Asia’s biggest Marian celebrations.

As Ina journeys through the waters of the Naga River, countless hearts come together in prayer, thanksgiving, and hope. The river transforms into a sea of faith—a moving testament to generations of devotion and an enduring love for the Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

At the heart of both NATCCO and the Peñafrancia Fiesta is a shared spirit of faith, solidarity, and community. Both remind us of the strength that comes when people come together with a shared purpose: supporting one another, uplifting communities, and building a better future—together.

As we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, may Ina continue to guide, protect, and bless millions of devotees, families, and communities united in faith and hope. Viva La Virgen!

At the 2𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 in the National Capital Region, 𝙈𝙨. 𝙎𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙣 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚 𝙎. 𝘿𝙮, 𝘾𝙋𝘼, Incoming CEO of NATCCO, brought a timely message on Institutional Financial Wellness: Strategic Risk Management, Inflation-Proofing Cooperative Portfolios, and Protecting Member Capital.

Speaking before more than 600 cooperative leaders and practitioners, she emphasized that financial sustainability and social impact should move together. Strong assets, healthy surpluses, sound liquidity, and effective risk management are essential, but they become truly meaningful when they translate into financial independence, stronger businesses, increased incomes, and a better quality of life for members.

The challenge is to make practical shifts: from compliance to conviction, from reporting to storytelling, and from short-term targets to generational legacy.

Because behind every number is a member. Behind every portfolio is a family. And behind every cooperative is a purpose: to help people help themselves and build stronger, more resilient communities.

The question we are left with is simple, but powerful:

𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝: 𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙅𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝘼𝙏𝘾𝘾𝙊 𝙉𝙚𝙩𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠

NATCCO warmly welcomes Mr. Omar Rahaman, a Canadian Volunteer joining us through the Canadian Volunteer Program, supported by the Government of Canada.

Omar officially kicked off his assignment today, September 18, with an onboarding orientation led by NATCCO CEO Sylvia O. Paraguya. Joining the session were Cherry Mae Tadeo-Cunanan, VCP Program Head and Women's Economic Empowerment Program Officer at CECI - Asia, alongside Ruth Pambid of Concern, Inc.

Omar brings over 30 years of global expertise in humanitarian leadership, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), capacity building, and international development across Asia, the Caribbean, and Canada. With a Master’s degree in Leadership and Training and a B.Tech. in Industrial Engineering, he has served in high-impact roles, such as Head of Mission, Regional Director, Adjunct Professor, and Chief Technical Advisor, collaborating with organizations like the ADB, USAID, ILO, and DFAT.

His extensive experience and commitment to community empowerment will be a vital asset to our cooperative network.

We invite you to join us in celebrating World Cleanup Day 2026 on September 20, 2026, under the inspiring theme "𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬." 𝙒𝙃𝘼𝙏 𝙆𝙀𝙀𝙋𝙎 𝘾𝙊𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙍𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙈𝘼𝙉𝘼𝙂𝙀𝙍𝙎 𝘼𝙒𝘼𝙆𝙀 𝘼𝙏 𝙉𝙄𝙂𝙃𝙏?

"If we remain fragmented, we will become history." These words come from Ruel S. Ricabo, the veteran CEO of Sta. Ana Multipurpose Cooperative, who has spent 34 years steering one of the country's prominent cooperatives. They set the tone for our first File.

Cooperative managers carry a double mandate — staying financially viable while never losing sight of their social, member-first mission. For this edition, we gathered the reflections of four veteran leaders from the NATCCO Manager's Club: Ricabo, Floriano Hilot of Oro Integrated Cooperative (OIC), Jesus D. Gadugdug of Alliance of Dedicated and Empowered Community Multipurpose Cooperative (ADECMPC), and Lilibeth Q. Liguden of Landbankers' Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LANDBANKOOP). Their experiences offer a raw, unvarnished look at what keeps cooperative leaders awake at night and how they are transforming these anxieties into strategic action.

Their shared experiences trace a common thread: the constant balancing act around Portfolio at Risk and member trust, the importance of staying relevant rather than relying on outdated assumptions, the case for treating fair employee compensation as a core business strategy rather than an expense, and the discipline required to keep Board and management working in step. Running through it all is a reminder that in a landscape shaped by fintech competition and generational change, the cooperative movement's strength lies in leaning into its federations rather than standing alone.

This isn't a theory. It's lived experience from managers navigating the same challenges you might be facing right now.
